What are the Advantages of Staying in a Hostel?

With my previous articles, I think you know hostels now.. Although I talk about the advantages of hostels with small anecdotes, I would like to list the advantages and disadvantages of staying in a hostel clearly so that you can answer the question “Should I stay in a hostel?“.

In this article, it is completely individual A listing based on my experience is waiting for you From the eyes of Görkem, who is 23 years old today!

Meeting People from All Over the World

In my opinion, this is the best feature of hostels.. Sometimes I jump on a plane alone, I’m going to the other side of the world! But I am not alone Because the atmosphere in the hostel can make you feel at home even thousands of kilometers away.

You go to one country, but you have the chance to meet people from all over the world there.. A few friends I meet in this way often invite me to their countries, why not soon?

Being Away From the Boring Environment of the Hotels

No matter how luxurious it is hotels have a cold environment. Because everything is extremely tidy, clean and very ordinary. It can also create an insincere perception if we are in a country we don’t know.

However, I don’t think the people staying in the hostel will get bored If nothing happens, you sit on a chair in the common area and join the conversation with other people with just a “hey” word.

To Live Like There Are

I need to open this topic a little bit For example, in my daily life in Istanbul, I go shopping, ride the subway, bike and witness various moments in non-touristy places.

Here, when I stay in a hostel, I have the chance to carry this same atmosphere abroad.. Hostels are not usually in the most touristic square, you have the chance to get to know more local parts of the city.. I also go shopping and then I can cook in the hostel kitchen! This made me feel myself from New York, Bangkok, Dubai, Tel-Aviv, albeit for a few days

Being Cooking Our Own

I said that being able to cook makes me feel like a local person, but there is also a financial dimension to this issue If you are used to using hostel kitchens, your travel expenses will decrease drastically.. This does not mean that I never eat out If I stay for 3 days, I eat 2-3 meals out and take care of the rest at the hostel myself.

There are also rules for cooking and using the kitchen in the hostel.. If you want to get detailed information on this subject, I’ll leave my post here and have a look.

Activities in the Hostel

Hotels have various facilities compared to ordinary hotels.. For example, you can play simple board and card games with other people staying at the hostel.. In most hostels, everyone comes in the evening and has a drink and chat in the common area.

In addition, hostels sometimes hold various social events.. For example, there was a classical music concert in the evening at the hostel I stayed in Ljubljana, Slovenia a few months ago!

Reasonable Price

A little Let’s talk money too I shouldn’t even have to tell you how cheap hostels are.. On average you pay 10-20 euros for 1 night in hostels all over the world. According to this country, it can be slightly above or below the average, but this is the general norm.

If we compare the hotels on the same average, this price rises to the 50-100 euro band.. Of course, the biggest advantage of hostels comes out in solo travels.. Because when there is a price per room in hotels, you pay for two if you are single, and you pay for the bed in hostels!

Getting a World View

Subjects such as worldview, vision, personal development are not mentioned much. But this is a subject that I attach great importance to in Görkemliyollar.. While men and women cannot buy bus tickets side by side in our country, we are talking about the fact that men and women can stay on the same bunk bed in hostels! And people who have never met before.

People who have never stayed in the hostel combine this with cultural elements and ask, “Is it okay?” “How does that work?” “The Europeans have gone astray?” can react like this, I find these reactions normal. But after you start staying in hostel, you learn to look at people only as people.. Everyone who stays at the hostel is human, regardless of gender, nationality, color etc.!

Are There Any Disadvantages?

In the hostel We explained the advantages of staying well Don’t these hostels have any disadvantages? You got it right, staying in a hostel has its downsides. I’m starting to list them in the same way;

Shared Bathroom and Toilet

It is obvious that we are staying in dormitories, not a personal room in the hostel.. That’s why we don’t have a toilet or a bathroom of our own.. This is a huge disadvantage in my opinion.

Because these are private and private areas for all of us, no matter how much we try to ignore them, we are afraid to share them with people we do not know.. Perhaps our biggest reservation is cleanliness!

Theme of General Cleaning

I have a detailed article about cleaning in hostels , I even have cleaning suggestions that you can’t find anywhere else.. Also , the hostel you choose can be really dirty ! This is one of the biggest disadvantages of staying in hostels.. but you may not experience such a surprise with the right hostel selection methods, get the tactics from my post Don’t forget that there is the same risk in hotels…

Insomnia Problem

from my Trip

Görkem likes to sleep very much, but sleeps very little abroad because you don’t get much sleep during travels! Every minute there is precious and we should explore the city without wasting it. This does not mean we will not sleep at all, provided we can “sleep”

If we are staying in a hostel, we could potentially be disturbed by people staying in the room with us.. Do you say snoring at night, those who ring the alarm in the morning or those who do not want to turn off the light until late? Although there is a luck factor, it is obvious that the environment will not always be the one we want.. That’s why those staying in the hostel have to find solutions to these problems or be able to tolerate them.

In this way, I have finished the advantages and disadvantages of staying in the hostel.. If there are people who are undecided about this, they can ask me in detail in the comment section. Because my hostel comments may vary depending on where you go. I recommend you to read my entire article on hostels, love!
