We saw Heracles in Alanya

We are in Alanya, which is at the top with Turkey’s tourism potential, has the longest beaches in the Mediterranean, and is 140 km away from Antalya…

Hotel options that appeal to different classes In Alanya, where it is observed that it enjoys hosting local and foreign tourists every month of the year, we throw ourselves into the streets after we settle in a hostel that is not very expensive and where we will just spend the night and continue our tour.. The streets, where we saw the traces of those busy days of the summer season, were filled with foreign tourists rather than locals.. Even though the tradesmen in the food sector take shape to attract customers, the situation does not seem very heartwarming.

When we sit in a place where we are convinced by the hard efforts of the tradesmen, we realize that the menu that comes to us is a Turkish and a foreign version.. This is an indication that the approach in Turkish tourism has not changed at all. The fact that there is not even a sign in Turkish in the bazaar we walked after dinner is a bitter contradiction within ourselves.. As we think about tiredness and the next day’s plans, we want to go back to the hostel and sleep.. We go back to our hostel and fall asleep. Tomorrow is a new day and the beauties to be discovered are waiting for us.

Before the city stood up yet, we stopped in front of a shop selling freshly squeezed fruit juice with a bagel we bought from a bakery.. After having our breakfast standing up like this, we go up to the castle to have a look at Alanya from Alanya Castle.. There are many living spaces within the walls of this castle, which is open to vehicular and pedestrian traffic with its magnificent view.. It’s hard not to see the houses and not be envious.. Think about it, your house is within the castle walls and you can look at a magnificent view from your balcony at any time.

While watching the Alanya Gulf with its sea like a sheet from Alanya Castle, it is located on the shore of the sea and once in our money. The Red Tower depicted has a completely different appearance.. This Seljuk structure, 33 meters high, made of hexagonal red brick, also houses an ethnography museum.

While we are watching the view, those who have just woken up are on their way to their work inside the castle walls by walking or by car.. Although the density of housing seems to be high, it is possible to say that there are places that still manage to stay green.

Damlataş Cave Is Closed

We have to leave the view to pain because of our decreasing time.. Our next stop is Damlataş Cave.. The entrance to the cave, which looks like a cafe or bar-style place when viewed from the outside with a not very stylish signboard, is quite lacking in creativity.

When we come to the entrance of the cave with these negative thoughts, we learn that the cave is not open to visitors yet and we are saddened.. It makes us sad to come this far and return without seeing the cave.. We take a look at the sea from Damlataş Beach and sigh.. The beach looks really beautiful.

The last point at the Alanya stop of our meticulously prepared program is the Alanya Archeology Museum.. The museum may not have been accustomed to seeing visitors at such an early hour that we step into the museum as visitors while the entrances are being washed and swept.

Towards Heracles…

Ethnographic, local clothing and artifacts excavated in the region that were not sent to Antalya are exhibited in this museum.. The most interesting work of the museum is Heracles.

The bronze statue of Heracles, which experts think was brought to Alanya as a war booty by pirates, draws attention with its feature of being in a much different form than all other Heracles statues in the world.. Heracles, commonly known as Hercules, is a name well known to those interested in mythology. symbolizes the invincible power of attack and stamina. Zeus’ jealous wife, Hera, with all her grudge and hatred, follows Heracles from birth to death.. Heracles is a demigod but also a mortal man and a slave. Although he has a God-given power, he does not enjoy using his strength, he did not choose to be a hero himself.. Since he cannot restrain his power in the events he is involved in, he unwillingly commits crimes and seems to go crazy from time to time.. He is asked to accomplish twelve deeds as atonement for the crimes against him.. If he succeeds in his twelve years of service, he will attain immortality.. He runs from adventure to adventure, each of which is the subject of a legend, using the power of his arms alone and with his mace that he never leaves his hand as a weapon.. The pelt on his hand, which is also reflected in his sculptures, is the armor he acquired after suffocating the Nemean lion in his arms.. Heracles, whose works are always for the benefit of humanity, returns to his country after overcoming all difficulties, but his bad fate follows him.. When he puts on the shirt, which is covered with a deadly elixir, he begins to burn with terrible pain.. He orders his son to get rid of the pain and has a woodpile prepared, he dies by burning.. Zeus intervenes in this tragic end and takes Heracles away; Heracles, who never returned to the people, marries Hebe and attains immortality.. Another name of Heracles in mythology is Hercules.”

The museum, which was opened in 1967, draws attention with its works representing different periods apart from the statue of Heracles.. While the stone inscription written in Phoenician language belonging to 625 BC carries the title of being the oldest work of the museum, the garden of the museum is equipped with stone artifacts.. Remembering that there are many places to see on our way from Alanya to Antalya, we set off again so that our schedule is not interrupted.. Goodbye Alanya.
