Wadi Rum – Rising Red Rocks in the Desert

Wadi Rum is a region of giant rocks on the desert. Over time, the rocks were carved by wind and rain and turned into enormous structures. The temperature difference between day and night is very high here. While it is 30 degrees during the day, the temperature drops to 10-12 degrees at night. The other name of this place is “Moon Valley” There is another “Moon Valley” but it is in Bolivia.

There are many alternatives that attract tourists here. By renting a jeep, you can go on a 2-3 hour safari over the rocks and red sand dunes, which we did. I definitely recommend it. However, there are several companies in the valley that do this, and you definitely have to bargain with them.

The view of the red sand dunes is spectacular, especially at sunset. The red cliffs rising in the middle of the desert make you feel like you are out of the world.

If you are more adventurous, you can go rock climbing. If you say no, I want to do something calmly, you can go for a ride in the desert by riding camels.

You can sit and eat in some of the Bedouin tents. Of course, arabic music is a must in the background. Speaking of music, everyone here listens to music all the time. I’ve never heard them listen to news or something in a taxi. Always music, always music…

The point to be considered here is to ask permission while taking pictures of local people.

If desired, you can set up a tent at the campsite and watch the moon and stars in the valley in the silence of the night. If you plan to stay, you should not expect luxury because you are staying in Bedouin tents. It’s a very different experience. It should definitely be tried.

The most preferred camps in Wadi Rum are the Wadi Rum Night Luxury Camp and the Obeid’s Bedouin Life Camp.
