11 – 30 April
11 with 20 million tulips. The Istanbul Tulip Festival (Istanbul Tulip Fest) has begun… The tulips that bloom with the beginning of April become the harbinger of summer and the colorful face of Istanbul.. Istanbul streets, parks, squares and gardens are fully decorated with various types of tulips. Why do we welcome tulips with such enthusiasm? Because tulips are not just plants for Turks… They are one of the symbols of Turkish history.. In fact, it is a name dedicated to a period.. If we remember the history; briefly, III. Ottomans, Venetians, Persians and Austrians under the reign of Sultan Ahmed! He was tired of fighting against the Ottoman Empire… When İbrahim Pasha became a vizier, he made an agreement with Austria and the Venetians at the expense of losing land, thus protecting the eastern border and bringing peace to the Ottoman Empire.. Between 1718 and 1730, the Ottoman Empire began to experience the Tulip Era.. An era of comfort and well-being… If we recall what has changed; Many inventions were brought from the West, some reforms were made in the state order, restructuring began in Istanbul and new palaces and mansions were built.. The first printing house was opened, and art, especially textiles and ceramics, was taken under protection.. Of course, these are the good sides.. That we regressed in this festive mood, etc.. And during this period, tulip bulbs were brought from foreign countries… Unfortunately, our original tulip bulbs are missing.. Istanbul Municipality continues its efforts to find the original tulip bulbs of the Ottoman type…
The tulips, whose history goes back this far, are just as valuable to the Turks.. So much so that this cultural icon leaves its mark in many fields of art, especially in rugs and painting, and even in the international symbol of Turkey…
