Traveling by Hitchhiking

I had never tried hitchhiking on a trip until I went to Mexico. I had my first experience alone at night in the city of Playa Del Carmen. I saw that it is adventurous, I tried to hitchhike in the next cities from time to time. Sometimes I waited in one spot for 6 hours, and sometimes the first car stopped in an unexpected place and took me to my destination. I had my worst experience traveling to a village with a German traveler. The man saw us hitchhiking and picked us up. After we sat inside, we saw that the man is both drunk and still drinking beer. The worst part is that the road to Uriqe village is always full of cliffs. And the man is going at full speed. Two hours later, the man stood on the top of the mountain and asked us for money. We hitchhiked, we said we wouldn’t do it if we had money, but the man didn’t listen. We paid 50 pesos (8 TL) per person. Then we continued on our way, but you know how to pray. All of a sudden, the man was listening to the latest nonsense Mexican music. The road was like a nightmare. One of my 30 hitchhiking experiences was like this, and we continued on our way. I’ve had experience of hitchhiking at night twice, but of course it would be safer to do this during the day. Especially if you are in Central and South America, it is easy to hitchhike here. But it is really difficult to travel long distances by hitchhiking. Because in general, there is no one going directly to that area, you get off in the next city, you have to hitchhike again. When you say to the next city from there to the next city, after a point, the taste is lost. Doing this job under the sun, rain or snow may not always be as fun as it seems in the video 🙂

I will continue to hitchhike on my next trips. I will, but I don’t think I can be someone who just hitchhikes. Because this job is not as easy as it seems.
