Sülüklügöl’ e How to Go?
It takes an average of 3 hours to go to Sülüklügöl, which is 200 km away from Istanbul, by a private car.. When you take into account the difficulty of some of the roads, yes it takes that many hours.. But the roads in the last hours are so beautiful that you start to be intertwined with nature on the way and it really doesn’t seem like it will ever end.. You can reach Sülüklügöl from Istanbul by following the E-80 highway and over the village of Dokurcun, which is connected to the Akyazı district of Sapanca..
How are the roads of Sülüklügöl?
After Dokurcun village, you start to see the signs for Sülüklügöl. As soon as you see the ‘6 km to Sülüklügöl’ sign, you can understand that the roads are now asphalt roads.. Welcome to the last 6 km, the dirt road full of stones and potholes.. I’m not too intimidated, but I would like you to go with caution.. On this somewhat challenging 6 km road, you will be accompanied by the Tavşansuyu creek, trees and birds flowing right next to you.. You have already started to enter the heart of nature.
Camping in Sülüklügöl
Camping in Sülüklügöl is one of the best activities to do here.. Here you can set up your own tent or stay in tents rented by the business.. There are very beautiful natural areas where you can set up a tent around the lake, you can choose the place you want with your view and set up your tent..
Lake Entrance and Camp Fees
This is actually a nature park. It is rented for 29 years and operated by a private enterprise.. Fees may vary from time to time. Let me tell you about the fees during the period I went, so that you can have some idea about it.. Entry fee; 12.00 TL if you are going to visit for a day and come back. Camping fee (with our own tent) 25.00 TL.
The Formation of the Lake
The story of Sülüklügöl goes back 300 years. As a result of tectonic movements that took place in the 1700s, that is, landslides, a pit is opened in the area where the current lake is located.. This pit begins to fill with water from the nearby Hongurdak creek.. The trees in the region start to rot starting from the top part of the water due to the effect of water.. Now the logs forming mystical images in the lake are the remains of rotten trees.. This view of the trees, which can be seen very clearly when the water is low in the summer, continues in the autumn season when I go.
Wildlife Around the Lake
Wildlife such as pigs, bears, wolves and foxes in the forest area where the lake is located continues. There are also animals. Do not be afraid, such wild animals do not come to the places where people are unless they are very hungry.. However, do not forget to store your food in the tent and throw your garbage in the trash.
What Can You Do in Sülüklügöl
You can camp
As I mentioned in the title of Camping in Sülüklügöl, the lake is in the middle of nowhere. You can camp anywhere you want.. Do not forget that Sülüklügöl will be a little colder depending on the weather conditions of the season you are in, and take extra thick clothes with you.. With an altitude of 1,070 meters, it is inevitable that it will be cold at night in summer.. Luckily there’s plenty of wood to burn.. To make a fire, you can light a fire and get warm in the cauldrons you will see around..
You can do trekking
There are many trekking routes starting around the lake and reaching the hill.. You can see Sülüklügöl from an exquisite angle if you go up the forest road from the roads you will follow through the trees.. By continuing your walk in this way, you can reach the Davlumbaz plateau and the 2 small lakes around.. As you can see, this is not just a place consisting of Sülüklügöl, there are also very beautiful walking routes full of wonderful views, I recommend you to explore it..
You can shoot photos and videos
If you are going to Sülüklügöl for photography and video shooting, I suggest you go in Autumn. Some of the waters of the lake are withdrawn in the summer, and the lake is not fully filled until the winter.. This creates a great view as some of the logs inside are visible.. If you are going to Sülüklügöl during this period when its waters are not fully filled, you are very lucky.. The logs in the lake will create a mystical image for your photo and video shoots, of course, the dry leaves of autumn are an extra beauty.. Also, another beautiful place close to here is Pürenli plateau.. It’s good to have a look at it too..
