Thailand Travel Notes -1-

Please put all your prejudices aside and start writing like that. Just have sex in your mind, not the usual things like they eat bugs.

I’ve been to Thailand 7-8 times at different times. Sometimes on my way to Cambodia, sometimes on the way to the Philippines, sometimes just to visit this place.. Thailand is the number ten hometown for low-budget travelers like me.. It is a country that loves foreigners, is kind, life is cheap, natural beauty is superb, and lots of fun.. Of course, it is also beautiful because it does not require a visa from us.

Now, one of the most asked questions is “Which season should we go?”. Thailand’s heat is unfortunately bad. When both heat and humidity come together, it can be very overwhelming for those who do not like extreme heat, but indoor spaces are always air-conditioned.. You feel refreshed when you enter.. If we divide the weather into months, I can say that it is rainy between June and October, extremely hot between March and May, and the ideal season between November and February.. I haven’t changed any of my travel plans so far because the weather will be bad or hot.. I say don’t change your plan because of the weather conditions.. Just as every season of Istanbul is beautiful, every season of Thailand is different.. Don’t worry if it rains. Ok it’s raining but after half an hour it’s gone. I think it’s not much of a problem.

They use their own currency, Baht. As of 2014, 1 USD = 32.5 Baht

Let’s talk about city by city.

Bangkok Travel Notes
I think this is my favorite city. You can find entertainment, shopping and art here.. Since taxi fares are very cheap in the city, you do not have to choose your hotel from the heart of the city.. A little out of town, you can get a double room for 30 TL per day.. So it comes to 15 TL per person.. If you prefer a hostel, very cheap alternatives can be found in the Khao San Road area.

Taxis cost almost the same as the subway.. Especially if you are two people, definitely prefer a taxi.. But there is a problem, that taxi drivers do not want to turn on the meter.. If you are in Bangkok, this detail is very important; If the taximeter is turned on, they may insistently want to take you 5 usd to your destination for 2 usd.. When you say turn on the taximeter, they usually give a negative answer.. For this, you can do the following methods; Tell the hotel you are staying that you want a taxi, but you will accept it on the condition that you turn on the meter.. If you get a negative answer, go out.. Tell individual taxi drivers that you can go on the condition that you turn on the taximeter.. one of 5-6 will accept. If you are going to do this job on busy streets, walk 30-40 meters forward or backward.. So get away from the crowds and stop taxis and start asking. Of course, someone agrees to turn on the taximeter.. But in some cases it is better to use the subway. Because the traffic of this place will search for Istanbul when necessary.. If there is a metro or sky train stop on your way, you can look at the metro map here and make a plan accordingly.

Let’s not miss the famous tuktuks.. These tools are the 3 wheels of the motorcycle.. Usually more expensive than taxis. And they are not very safe.. It can have serious consequences in a possible accident as it is open all the way and the drivers are driving the vehicle frantically.. Just ride once or twice for fun, but don’t overdo it.

The most central part of the city is the Siam region.. You can find 4-5 shopping malls, a cultural building and similar attractions here.. During your stay in Bangkok, you will probably stop by 2-3 times.. You can find the most luxurious brands in the shopping malls here.

Khaso San Road area is the place where young tourists hang out.. It is calm during the day and starts to get active after 8 pm.. You can think of it like our Istiklal Street.. There are stalls left and right, night markets, restaurants, bars and clubs.. When you come to Bangkok and can’t find anything to do, skip it and come here somehow.

You can see many Buddhist temples as the country is Buddhist. I will briefly describe a couple of them.. Historical details vs..

First of all, let me say this. You can take a daily tour to these temples in the city.. But I think you should go by your own means.. easy to find. You learn to travel cheaper this way, and you can get away from the usual travel culture by mixing with people thanks to public transportation.. The entrance to the temples is either free or 1-2 usd.. Don’t worry about the entrance fee.

No, if you still say we can’t go ourselves, download the map here. Starting at number 1 and going all the way to 9, you’ll see almost all the must-see temples.

You’ve heard of the Wat Pho golden buddha statue. It is perhaps one of the most touristic temples in Bangkok. You’ve probably never seen such a large piece of gold before. There are things to see not only in the reclining Buddha, but also in places such as the small temple next to it.

Wat Arun is also one of the most important temples in Bangkok.. This structure was brought completely from Cambodia.. If you’ve been to Angkor Wat, Cambodia, you can immediately spot the resemblance.. You can reach the top of the temple using the steep stairs.. Even if it’s a little tiring, I say go up.

I won’t mention other temples. As I said, you can look at the map and go to all of them in order.. If you can’t decide which one to go to, I’ve taken videos of many of them, it may be useful for you.

Food is not as bad as you think.. If you put aside prejudices you can love thai food. Of course, I’m not talking about all of them, but they have good dishes to suit our taste. If nothing else, try the chicken nodule soup. Try the papaya salad. Try their fried chicken. Try the seafood. If you say no, there are many fast food chains such as KFC, McDonalds and Burger King.. Somehow you fill your stomach.

You can see tropical fruits all over Thailand. Sometimes they sell on the street, sometimes in the markets. I say try what you see.. You may not have the chance to find that kind of fruit again.. And since hormonal things don’t come here often, whatever you eat is usually very tasty.

Let’s talk about the famous insect eating.. In the night markets, especially on Khao San Road, you can see the stalls selling cooked bugs, scorpions and grasshoppers.. I asked one of them how are we going to eat this. What the man said, I don’t know, we don’t eat these, the tourists who come do. think about the rest. But let me be realistic. Don’t they eat insects, they eat. A Thai girl I met took a bowl of bugs with me and ate it with her friends.. But the insect he got was a small, strange species like a grasshopper.. When I asked why you didn’t get one of those big bugs, grasshoppers, scorpions or cockroaches, they replied that it was filthy, inedible.. Now I leave the comment to you.

Let’s talk about shopping here, what I love the most.

Bangkok shopping appeals to both men and women. You can buy shawls, bags and clothes for women in street and night markets very cheaply compared to Turkey.. Bargaining is essential in these markets. If the seller tells you 100 baht, say I’m looking for something 30 baht.. It will tell you the last digit to get off your back when you leave the last counter.. If it comes to your account, you will receive. You can also find leather products very cheap here.. There are plenty of wallet and bag alternatives for both men and women.. Since this shopping issue is important, let me explain it in some detail.

Night Markets
possible to see the markets. By market, I mean the stalls that open left and right on the side of the road.. Although not very high quality things, you can find interesting things from time to time, and you can handle souvenirs from here.. As I said before, do not miss the bargaining thing.. For the night market, I’m going to name 3 of the best.

  • Khaso San Road: As I said before, this is a place that gets lively in the evenings.. You can do your night shopping here, then get a foot massage and then a cheap meal.. The night market is medium quality.
  • Patpong Night Market: This is the ideal place to find replica watches and bags. You can find almost exactly the likes of the most expensive brands.
  • Asiatique Market: This is one of the places that are quiet during the day and lively in the evening.. I think this is the best quality and proper market.. It is not affected by bad weather conditions as it has both indoor and outdoor areas.. Although the prices are a little higher than other night markets, you will love it here.. You may also be interested in the huge Ferris wheel.

Chatuchak Weekend Market: This is the largest market in the world as far as I know. Only open on weekends. The interior is so big that if you spare a full day, you still cannot visit all of them.. So get a map of the market from the information section at the entrance. No, if you want to see the map before we go, download it from here. Inside, you can find everything from outdoor products to the flower market, from a second-hand shoe store to exquisite oil paintings.. If there is time for shopping, spend a full day here.

Terminal 21: If you want stylish clothes and you don’t have a brand obsession, this mall is for you. You can find all kinds of t-shirts, shoes and leather bags here.. There isn’t much of a bargain, but you still have a little push.. In addition, one floor of the shopping center was designed with the concept of Istanbul.. It is also a beauty.

Siam Paragon: This is a big shopping center, but there is a huge department store in it.. You can think like our YKM. It can offer unique discounts from time to time, and it has even the most luxurious brands.. Since it’s already in the center, I say stop by here.

MBK Center: If you want many things you can find in night markets in a shopping center concept, this is the place to come.. big place. It takes a lot of time to travel. Don’t expect high quality. On the top floor there is almost every brand for electronics and cameras.

Amarin Plaza: This is one of my favorite malls. You can find the widest range of outdoor products here.. 2nd. There is a department store on the floor only for outdoor products and you will find whatever you look for inside.. There are also defective, outlet products of brands such as Helly Hansen and Marmot.. If you’re lucky, you can buy the products of these brands at very low prices.

Labrador Factory: I love this store because I love leather products too much.. If you want something original, definitely don’t miss this place. It has a branch in Terminal 21 and Siam Complex.

Pantip Plaza: Computer center. For electronics, computer and photographic equipment, you can find them all under one roof.. Be careful when buying products as it is a very touristic place. Do not buy without looking whether the accessories in the box are complete or original.. Especially when you ask for the price, they can tell you the tax free version.. Don’t be fooled just because it’s so cheap. Prices are cheap compared to Turkey, but don’t expect 50% difference.

Floating(Floating) Market: This is an ideal place for photography lovers. You can capture interesting frames. Even though it doesn’t have much of a feature that attracts me as a market, I say stop by one of these floating markets for photos.

If you are going to buy something with a high amount of money, do not forget to do it from a tax free place.. Because you can get a 6% tax refund at the airport when you go out of the country.

Let’s talk about shopping, and then let’s come to the nightlife, which has become popular.

Bangkok Nightlife
Since Thai people are very broad in male-female relationships and even in homosexual relationships, this situation is also reflected in nightlife.. In fact, transgenderism in the country is so commonplace that there are many gay people working in banks, markets or shopping malls.. In the gender section of the survey or application forms, you can also see the gay option besides male/female.. Even though it is a strange situation for us, we respect and continue their opinions.

Nana Plaza:  The places I hate the most in my life list, it is in the top three. Think of it like a normal shopping mall, but there are no shops inside, just bars and nightclubs.. Likewise, there are similar venues around this nana plaza.. If you want paid sex, this is the center of the business.. But there are gays as well as women, be careful. This place is usually full of middle-aged and older people from Europe and America.

Patpong: Nana is a neater area than the plaza. You won’t find much other than go go bars and paid sex.

Soi Cowboy: According to the two places I listed above, this is the smoothest one.. But again, there is no normal entertainment around here.. If this type of entertainment is what you’re looking for, you’ve hit the spot.

These 3 places I’ve counted are the most well-known places.. Those who want to buy entertainment with money come here. I don’t recommend this place to anyone, but if you say that I will have fun here and have paid sex, know that the whole world comes here for this job.. You are dealing with all kinds of diseases.. Do not drink alcohol and take all necessary precautions.

If you say that there is no normal night entertainment in Bangkok, of course, there is.. I already said Khao San Road area is the place for foreign youth. Come here. There are both bars and nightclubs here.. Have fun as you wish. If you are looking for a place around Nana, I recommend Club Level, but it was much better when it first opened.. It is one of the best clubs to go in Bangkok, even though its beauty is lost because it is a touristic place day by day.. There are 3 different concepts inside. One is techno, the other two are pop and r&b.. It is also beautiful because it has an outdoor terrace.

Now, let’s take a short tour of Bangkok with a video and finish our topic.

Tiger Temple / Kanchanaburi
If you have time, visit this place while you are in Bangkok.. A place 2-3 hours away from the city center by car. When I went, I had two other friends with me.. We got an all inclusive tour for 100 usd per person. It picks you up from your hotel at 7 in the morning and drops you back to the hotel in the evening.. First you stop by a big cemetery from the war, but there is not much humor here.. Then go to Tiger Temple. You do not pay an entrance fee as it is included in the tour. You go to the main place by walking with tigers in groups of 20 each.. Here you take pictures in order. If you want to take a more special photo with tigers like below, you need to pay an extra 4-5 USD.. After you’re done here, it’s time to go on an elephant safari.. You finish there and set off to go to the hotel.. Everyone may wonder if these tigers are sleeping or have they taken medicine?. The tigers I see don’t sleep. You are already holding the leash in turn and walking together.. Afterwards, they all lie on the ground, sleepy, as the animals become soggy from the heat.. My guess is that the tigers hang out in a relaxed way because all of them are well fed before they come here.. I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong, but I hope they don’t give any drugs or anything like that.

This I would say look at other alternatives before taking the tour.. If you want to feed the baby tigers by hand, the price will increase.

You can also come here with more affordable tours.. They come by taking the big bus. There are many tourist agencies in Khao San Road area. You can find out the detailed prices by visiting them.

If you want to go, you will spend a full day here.. Don’t be fooled into thinking that I’ll go in the morning and come back at noon.

Pattaya
I’m here on my way to Cambodia. I was thinking that I would stop by, depending on the situation, I would stay for 3-4 days.. But after seeing the nightlife that didn’t suit me at all, and when I realized there was nothing else here, I only stayed one day and continued on my way.. I was embarrassed to see those maybe underage girls in the lap of the 50-60 year old European and American types with a belly.. This place tops the list of the worst places I’ve ever seen.. Of course, these things are relative.. You can come and love this place, maybe even spend a nice 10 days. As I said, because the city did not appeal to me, I stayed for 1 day and continued on my way.
