This time our address was Bozcaada, the most popular holiday destination for small getaways or weekends.. Our location on October 29, 2013 holiday was Küçükkuyu. Therefore, we reached Geyikli from Küçükkuyu and took the ferryboat, which departs every two hours from the pier.. Although many sources give information about the transportation time from Geyikli to Bozcaada as 50 minutes, it takes 30 minutes to reach the island. Built on a dry island, Bozcaada Castle with its majesty seems to welcome visitors.
We got off the ferry and parked in the free car park behind the castle and explored the island on foot.. The island has 11 bays, 11 capes and 13 small islands around it.. Since all of Bozcaada is a natural and historical site, nothing can be done on the island without the permission of the Board of Monuments.
A Brief Information About the History of the Island:
Bozcaada, according to the Greek historian Herodotus, the island that was Tenedos was under the rule of the Persians and later the Romans in ancient times, but after the collapse of the Roman Empire, it came under the rule of the Byzantine Empire.. Genoese and Venetians competed with each other to seize the island, as it would be beneficial for their commercial activities.. island under Ottoman rule I. Although it was under the protection of other states with the World War II, it became the Republic of Turkey with the Treaty of Lausanne signed on July 24, 1923.
Bozcaada is Turkey’s 3rd. is the largest island. However, because you are big, you should not worry about how I will travel in one day.. If you are not going to swim, the island can be easily visited in 1 full day.
Right side of the island is Greek and left side is Turkish quarter.. While there are more hostels and hotels in the Turkish quarter, there are cafes, restaurants (fisher-taverns) in the Greek quarter.. Today, 10 Greek households live in the Greek quarter.
We went to Eski Kahve for breakfast and had a mixed breakfast.. We are ready to read our newspaper with tea.. (Address: It is on the right corner when you enter from the opposite street of Ziraat Bank.. Fee : 30 TL for 2 people. When we heard about Ada Cafe’s reputation, we hid our coffee pleasure in this place.
Turkish coffee with cardamom, mastic and marjoram. we preferred mastic gum. After sweetening our mouths with the poppy delight served with it, it was time for the famous poppy sherbet that Ada Cafe gave Bozcaada as a gift.. Served in a large glass with crushed ice, this sherbet is worth a try.. If you don’t try, you will regret it! (Address: It is on the left of the square you arrive when you take Ziraat Bank on your left and proceed.. Price: Turkish coffee with 2 drops of mastic, 2 poppy sherbets 20 TL, a pack of poppy delight 7.5 TL) We dived into the side streets in the neighborhood. It is possible to find hostels in this region.. The right side of the island is cuter, more colorful and more decorative. Pastel-colored doors-windows, cute cats waiting in front of them, colorful flowers adorning the pots, trees shading the streets, and Greek taverns that give life to this part of the island, this is a region where you can find enough reasons to spend most of your time.. We arrived at the parking lot where our car was located by photographing the beautiful frames caught on our lens in the streets of the Greek quarter.
We are slowly walking through the vineyards to end our walking route and tour the island by car and see its beaches.. We entered the Ataol beach that came before us, got information about the bungalow houses, and toured the coast.. When we went, we asked the officer about the bungalow price, who said that they closed the hotel due to the season.. As a bungalow, 350 TL, whether for 1 person or 4 people, prices are given for the bungalow.
It has a stony beach and a seaside. On the way from Ataol to Ayazma, the Aquarium Bay in Mermerburnu Mevkii got its name, as its name suggests, because its sea is like an aquarium.
From here we went to Ayazma, the most famous beach of the island. Many restaurants are located on the street for the food preferences of those who will spend time at the beach all day.. These are Vahit’in Yeri, Koreli’in Yeri, Thenos Restaurant and Bozuran Restaurant.. After Mitos beach in Habbeler bay, we went to the famous Çiçek Patisserie of the island.
We tasted Kavala and almond butter cookies with tea.. All the products of the patisserie were fresh and delicious, but we recommend the almond butter cookies instead of Kavala cookies.. We think it would be beneficial to try different flavors here, when you can eat the most genuine Kavala cookies in Edirne.. We liked the almond butter cookies so much that we did not neglect to have a package even with tea in the evening
Because we have a further 63 km to Küçükkuyu, where we will return by the 18:00 ferry in the evening, We went to Sandal Restaurant in the Greek neighborhood in order not to get hungry on the way and to taste Bozcaada appetizers.. We almost reached the peak of taste with Aegean appetizers, apple purslane, stuffed zucchini flowers, sea beans and stuffed calamari (with melted cheese inside the calamari), as well as raki and Talay wine.. After eating our Gummy Pudding, which is another taste that should be eaten after coming to Bozcaada, we think of the sunset while we think about having our last drink before saying goodbye to the island in Polente in the center of the island.. We reach the west end of the island, where the windmills are located, in about 7 minutes.. But before we arrived, the sun was already setting, so we faced the low pier and got in line for the ferry for the turn.
