Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery / Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery (Man Fat Tsz) is located on Po Fok Hill in Pai Tau region. Since it is the most important Buddha temple in Hong Kong, it is a frequent destination for many tourists.. Founded by Yuet Kai in 1949, the temple was completed in 1957.. There is no residence inside the temple.
Yuet Kai is the son of a wealthy family and was born in southern China in 1878.. Yuet Kai, who is a master at playing the lyre, is also a talented poet.. He pioneered philosophy at the university in China and decided to devote his life to Buddhism at the age of 19.
In 1933, he settled in Hong Kong and gave advice and advice on Buddhism at local monasteries. He started to give a lot of followers in a short time.. He planned to build a Buddhist school on the land donated by a wealthy merchant who devoted himself to Buddhism, but in early 1949 he found 10,000 buddha monasteries and started its construction.. Although the monastery was completed in 1957, it was able to take its current form 10 years later.
Yuet Kai died on April 24, 1965 at the age of 87.. Eight months after his death, he was taken out of the coffin, mummified, covered with golden varnish, and placed in a glass partition sitting in the lotus position.. It’s called Yuexi’s imperishable diamond body.
The monastery was restored in 1968. Many parts could not be repaired.. Some statues are repainted and some are covered with pure gold.. As a result of severe floods and landslides in 1997, the monastery and some structures were seriously damaged and some of the structures were destroyed.. The monastery was rebuilt, keeping it closed to the public for 2.5 years.
The temple was built in 2 tiers on more than 8 hectares of bamboo forest on the hill against Shatin.. 5 Temples, 4 Tents, 1 Patio and Pagoda available. In order to reach them, it is necessary to climb 431 steps made of concrete.. There are 500 large gold-plated Arhan statues along the way.
After climbing the stairs, you arrive at the main temple, the hall where 10,000 Buddha statues are located, Avalokitesvara (Kwun Yam), Samantabhadra, Manjusri Tent, 18 Arhat gallery, Naga-puspa hall and the 9-storey Pagoda.
13,000 gold ceramic miniature Buddha statues in different positions are lined up on the shelves on the walls of the main temple.
3 large gold-clad Buddha statues are located behind the mummified Yuet Kai in the main hall. You can also buy incense sticks, papers and various souvenirs from the small stand in the main hall.
The 9-storey pagoda can be reached by climbing the stairs.. Buddha statues are placed on the windows on each floor.. When you reach the top, the view of Shatin is underfoot.

The upper terrace is reached after climbing the other 69 stairs. In this area, there are Amitabha hall, Avalotiskesvara (Kwun Yam) house, Cundi house, Ksitigarbha house, Jade ruler’s hall, Sprinkler Guanyin, YueXi tent and Naga-puspa courtyard.
The Amitabha hall, where the statue of the golden Amitabha Buddha is located, has been opened to visitors since 2009.
When you exit this hall and proceed, the huge white Kwun Yam in front of the waterfall at the end of the terrace The statue draws attention in all its splendor.. On the rocks in front of the Kwun Yam statue, various gold-covered Buddha statues are seated.

Transportation: When you get off at Shatin stop by MTR train, exit B exit gate and go down the left side of the road, you will see the Ten Thousand Buddha Monastary sign on the corner..
