Sri Lanka and Sigiriya Fortress

Sigiriya Castle, an ancient settlement built on a very high hill. In fact, it is a palace built on a hill rather than a settlement.

4. Sigiriya Castle, which was built in the 16th century, is on the UNESCO world cultural heritage list.. Lion’s Rock, also known as Lion’s Rock. Of course, we understand more clearly why they gave this name after seeing the huge entrance gate of the castle after climbing the hill.. Although it does not appear as a single piece of lion as it has been damaged over time, you can see the 3D animation in the museum you will see before you go up the hill.. It’s impressive.

A volcanic rock about 200 meters high that stands alone on a wide plain. And the huge castle on it. It is surrounded by a moat.. These ditches were made by human hands during the period.. There are not many crocodiles that used to live in this ditch now.. We still got the chance to see one.

The landscaping is very neat.. The water channels and water fountains made under the conditions of that period are astonishing.. After the ditch, we pass through rows of gardens.

There is a path leading up to the rock with suspension bridges and stairs.. We will have to climb around 1,200 steep steps to climb the hill.. It will be a tough climb under that heat, but we are determined and we will climb out.

In addition to being the palace of the king in ancient times, this place was also a religious center for Buddhist monks.

After a while after starting the climb, we come to a narrow area.. Here are some original old pictures that have still been preserved.. The 1600-year-old paintings made with root paints still remain the same.

A little further, we come to the mirror wall.. Since there was no mirror with the technology of that time, they made a mirror shape by applying various oils on the rocks we know.. A mixture of beeswax, marble stone and calcium carbonate was used.. Its aim is to both beautify the road called the royal road and to double the pictures on the opposite wall through the mirror.. Currently, only his foot is visible and there was an entrance to the palace where his mouth used to be.

We are taking a breather here.. Most are finished, few are left, but after this point the stairs get steeper. The view is really amazing when you go up.. A hill dominating the entire surrounding region. So it was worth all our tiredness.

There used to be a two-story building at the top, but now only the location of the building is barely distinguishable.. The only water source of the large pool in the palace was rain water and it was carved from a single piece of rock.. Indeed, Sigirya is a very good example of human power.

Be careful about this.. There may be hornet attacks in this region from time to time.. They made these warnings with the signs they put up from time to time.. During the Tamil civil war, the government did not damage the beehives while suppressing the Tamils.. Because according to their thoughts, the real owners of the forest are the animals, and we are the guests.. Therefore, they did not harm the beehives.. For this reason, there was a lot of hornets in this region before, and this type of attack could also occur.. We were lucky that we wandered around Sigiriya to the fullest without any of us taking a bite.
