Prague in a Day

We are in the streets of Prague that look just like Amsterdam, Brussels or Bruges. While struggling with the freezing cold, we are struggling to understand Prague and Czechs.

Prague Castle, where soldiers change guard every hour at the entrance, is one of Prague’s indispensable tourist haunts.. The Czech Republic, which has no defense concerns and no external threats, does not have an official defense force. Representative soldiers guarding the castle are doing mercenary duties.. This castle has entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest ancient castle in the world.. The Czech President (head of state) welcomes his international guests at the Presidential Representation Center, which is right next to the castle, which is 570 meters long and 130 meters wide.. President of the Republic of Turkey Abdullah Gul is one of the guests hosted hereā€¦ Czech kings of the time, Holy Roman Emperors and presidents of the Czech Republic had rooms in this castle.

St.. Vitus Cathedral

One of the most important structures of the castle on the hill, which ruled for years as the historical, political and religious center of Prague, is the cathedral.. The cathedral, which took 600 years to build and was completed in 1929, is very important with its stained glass interior, silver sculptures and the bones of the saints it contains.. Since 80% of the Czech Republic is atheist, this building cannot go beyond a touristic place today.

The building, which is a Roman Catholic cathedral,. Built by Karl to Petr Parler. The ‘Last Judgment’ mosaic of Jesus stands out on the south bronze door, which is the main entrance of the cathedral and was completed in 1367.. The 75-meter gothic bell tower is architecturally and visually flawless with its baroque dome mounted on top.

Astronomical Clock Tower

As we end our walk in the castle and our cold dance We are walking slowly to the old town square in the middle of Prague.. Our goal is to see the Astronomical Clock Tower surrounded by cafes selling excellent beers.

15. The Astronomical Clock Tower, built in the 19th century, attracts everyone’s attention with the bells ringing every hour and the twelve apostles coming out of the window that opens.. Hundreds of tourists gather in the square every hour to watch this sermon that ends with roosters.. The reason why it got its astronomical name is related to the fact that it also shows the earth and sun positions apart from the time zone we know.. According to the rumors, the master who built the Astronomical Clock Tower was blinded so as not to create another masterpiece.

Prague is the city that also hosts private hobby museums of all sizes.. Tiny side street museums containing personal information of individuals offer interesting information and visuals for the curious.. The Museum of Torture is ideal for experiencing fearful moments with its thousands of torture instruments and its structure reflecting the medieval culture.. Museums such as the sex toys museum, the erotic museum, the sexuality museum, the musical instruments museum, the children’s toy museum are open to visitors.. That’s why I say you prefer walking instead of taking the subway or tram.

The Gunpowder Gate

The old one while walking alone in the side streets. you might come across a museum, a historical building or an excellent church. During this walk, we come across the Gunpowder Gate.

The Gunpowder Gate, which is the starting point of the path that the Kings and Queens of Bohemia walked during their coronation ceremonies, is of historical importance “as the head of the royal road”.. The historical gothic tower from the 13th century was a building left behind from the destroyed palace and was silent with its loneliness.

Old Town Hall Tower

When we pass through the Gunpowder Gate and walk towards the old town square, we decide to go up to the tower in the old town hall.. The tower, which we took the elevator to watch Prague from a height of 69.5 meters, is really wonderful.. The fact that the buildings throughout Prague were taken under protection and the new, modern city was not brought into this old city did not affect the natural structure and appearance.. Thanks to these conscious and controlled steps, Prague gets a much larger share from tourism.

With the tiredness of the day and the excitement of discovering a new city, we return to Mustek Square, where we will take the metro to go to our hotel.. While we are protected from the cold by drinking mulled wine, we follow an action in the square that we do not understand why, and we are on the way back.. It should be added to the places to be seen and experienced.
