Where to Stay in Trabzon? – Hotel Recommendations

When choosing a hotel in Trabzon, if your primary criterion is the room price, you should pay attention to the location selection.. The record of hotels in the port area is not very clean; There may be a security problem or you may encounter situations that do not fit the family environment.

Although it is not an overly conservative city, remember that if you are not married in places other than big chain hotels, it may be difficult to stay in the same room with your partner.

We, We stayed at Anıl Hotel, where we found the most affordable price at the time we went (in 2020, the room price is 200 TL).

If you are fond of your comfort, you should put aside your financial concerns and choose bigger hotels.Places that come to mind when it comes to “Where to stay in Trabzon city center?” Park Dedeman, Zorlu Grand Hotel, Hilton Grand Inn, Novotel Trabzon, Kuhla Boutique Hotel and Trabzon Hotel.

When to go to Trabzon?

Even though you may encounter heavy fog and snowfall in winter, Trabzon is a city that can be visited in all four seasons.. The thing to remember when planning is this: you can come across rainy weather in every month of the year. In addition, since the seasonal normals change, you may encounter snowfall while predicting that it will be warm in spring, or you may encounter cold weather while predicting it will be cool.

We went on the Eastern Black Sea tour in July and during the period we went. Temperature record breaking in Trabzon. Since we could not bear to walk in the heat, we could not go to Trabzon castle or Boztepe.. Although it is said to be the “best time” for summer, it is not good to go when it is that hot; Spring months are more ideal for visiting the center of Trabzon.

What to Buy in Trabzon? – Gift Recommendations

Let me start with shopping in Trabzon. Bedesten Bazaar, Semerciler Street and Bakırcılar Bazaar are among the places that can be preferred for shopping.. You can buy embroidered clogs, red local shawls, kemençes and very high quality copper kitchen products as gifts here.

For those who say, “What to buy from Trabzon?”, corn bread, Vakfıkebir bread, They may prefer Trabzon bagel and kolot cheese.

Places to Visit in Trabzon

What we did Trabzon trip coincided with an extraordinary time when Turkey was scorched by the desert heat, so our travel plan was slightly different and we could not see some of the points in the list of “Places to visit in Trabzon”.

More in the heat. Before visiting Trabzon Castle because we didn’t have enough time to visit, Çal Cave because the road was closed at the time we were traveling, and Karester Hill because we couldn’t be sure of the road condition. we have completed our trip. Also, because we punctured a tire while we were traveling in Artvin, we lost unnecessary time dealing with issues such as tire repair in Trabzon.

If you have time or if you have the chance to spend more than 2 days in Trabzon, Hıdırnebi Plateau, Kayabaşı Plateau You can visit plateaus like , go hiking in Altındere National Park or go up to Boztepe for a sunset view.

Trabzon Uzungöl

The corner of tranquility, Uzungöl, where Trabzon was once described as a “natural wonder”, has recently become one of the most talked about topics in social media.. Every day, we read the criticism that there is no trace of the old state.. Still, I wanted to go and see it with my own eyes, and I don’t regret it at all.

Yes, the lake is full of hotels, restaurants and amusement parks! Men wearing sultan’s clothes and carrying parrots in their hands, children using electric motors… But I don’t think there is much to say about their natural beauty.. This was our first stop in the Eastern Black Sea Region, where we first saw what green was.. So I may have been a little too impressed.. If we had seen Artvin first, I probably wouldn’t have felt the same feelings.

The distance between Trabzon and Uzungöl is about 1.5 hours by car.. Since we went on a day when there was no rain or fog, we had no problems with transportation, but there are people who stay on the steep bend towards the end of the road to Uzungöl, but if you trust your driving skills, you will not have a problem because there is a clean asphalt road up to the lake.

You will park the car at the entrance of Uzungöl. Finding a place is a big deal.. If you’re lucky, leave the car as you came to the lake and walk around it.

If you want to go to the point that overlooks Uzungol from the top and have a nice breakfast, you need to go up Karester Hill.

Japsiyas Bridge (Tiled Bridge)

Prisoner Bridge; One of the historical bridges on the road from Trabzon to Uzungöl, attracting attention with its different architecture.. We took a short break on the way back from Uzungöl for the bridge that we could not see and stop for -it was across the road-.

There are hundreds of bridges built over the streams in the Eastern Black Sea Region, but the Hapsiyaş Bridge is distinguished by its use of wooden materials, architectural style and having a roof.

It is also called the Tiled Bridge, as tiles specific to the region are used on its roof.. Gazebos were built around it; tea, corn etc.. There are peddlers selling. It was very quiet when we went.. Therefore, I think it is a good alternative for a tea break.

Sumela Monastery

Altındere Valley National Park entrance fee: 12 TL (per car)
Sumela Monastery entrance fee: 10 TL (per person) – Free for Müzekart
Opening – Closing Hours:
10.00-20.00 (April–September)
08:00-17:00 (October–March)
Closed on Monday
Click for official website.

I think Sumela Monastery is the first touristic place that comes to mind when it comes to “Places to visit in Trabzon”. Unfortunately, it was closed to visitors due to restoration at the time we went.. Despite this, we hit the road to see the monastery, even from a distance.

In 2019, a part of Sümela Monastery was opened to visitors; I don’t know when the rest will open.. I suggest you check the official site before you go.

After entering the national park area, there are 2 alternative ways to exit the monastery: One is a 3 km driveway and the other is a 1.2 km walking path.. I was very prepared to go to the walking path to experience the feeling of climbing in the old times, but I was slightly disappointed when I learned that it was closed too.. I hope you find it clear.

After we continued by car and reached the small church where the restoration started, we saw the Sumela Monastery from the closest distance we could see, took our photos and went back.. Even that was enough to impress us, I can’t even think of going up to the monastery and visiting inside.

Going to Sümela Monastery is not difficult at all.. There is an asphalt road until you reach Altındere National Park.. After that, the 3 km road you climb is covered with stones.. Most of the roads we entered are in good condition compared to the stabilized roads.

Hamsiköy

I honestly had no intention of going to this village, which is famous for its rice pudding.. “What’s the point of going all the way just for rice pudding!” I was thinking. After spending less time in Sümela than we expected, we decided to stop by Hamsiköy.

It’s good that we went; Hamsikoy was the most beautiful place I saw in Trabzon. You should go to see the village view, not to eat rice pudding.. We ate rice pudding and kuymak with it, that’s different!

Even though it seems like a bird flight is very close to Sümela Monastery when you look at the map, you have to go back to Maçka first to reach Hamsiköy.. It is 45 minutes away from Sümela and 1 hour from the center of Trabzon.

Trabzon Museum (Kostaki Mansion) )

Entry Fee: 10 TL
Opening – Closing Hours: 10.00-17.00
Closed on Monday
Note for 2020: The museum is said to be closed for restoration. I recommend you to check the current situation before making a travel plan. There is a place where you can get enough of baroque, rococo and art nouveau in the center of Trabzon: Trabzon Museum.

A very different structure with a unique architecture and interior decoration.. Trabzon Museum is also known as Kostaki Mansion because it is an old mansion belonging to the Kostaki family.. In addition to the belongings of the mansion, there is also the Ethnography and Archeology Museum.. You can feel the aesthetics to your bones in this mansion, where you are enchanted by the embroidery even on the heater cores.

If you don’t have much interest in these types of structures, you can skip it, but the entrance fee is very affordable and the Müzekart is valid.. Since it is a place you can visit in half an hour, “Stop by while you are here.”

Hagia Sophia Museum

Entry fee: 8 TL
Opening – Closing Hours : 09.00-17.00

Hagia Sophia Museum is one of the places at the top of the list of places to visit in Trabzon, but I think it is not necessary to spare time, I’m sorry.

This is 13. It is a structure with high historical value, which was built as a church in the 16th century and converted into a mosque with the conquest of Trabzon by Fatih Sultan Mehmet.. But there’s not much to see inside; that is, it exists but you cannot see it.

As it is open to worship, all the frescoes and icons are covered with fabrics.. You can only come if you want to see the building from the outside and cool off with the view of the Black Sea.. Other than that, it’s not a place I can recommend.

The Hagia Sophia Museum was restored and opened to visitors as a museum.. You can see all the details I mentioned above.. If I have a chance to go again, I will update my ideas here.

Atatürk Mansion

Entry Fee: 10 TL
Opening – Closing Hours:
08:00-19.00(April-September)
08:00-17:00(October-March)

Trabzon I think Atatürk Mansion is the place where local tourists show the most interest in the center.. Besides, if you ask about the list of “places to shoot bride-groom in Trabzon”, I think Atatürk’s Mansion takes the lead.. From here, you can deduce how beautiful the nature is around it.

This is a mansion that Atatürk stayed during the War of Independence, which was later dedicated to him by the people and turned into a museum.. The period clothes, kitchen utensils, furniture inside it attracts a lot of attention, you are suddenly transported to that time.

If you come across a few tour buses while visiting the Atatürk Mansion, you may lose your taste.. You become 40 people trying to take pictures in the hall at the same time.. If you encounter such a situation, my advice to you is to be patient, wait 5-10 minutes, and continue your tour like that, because those who come by tour leave the environment within 10 minutes at most.. If you have time, you can take a tea break under the trees in the garden behind the mansion.
