Uzunyuva Mausoleum and Museum
First of all, let me state this; When we went to Milas about 2-3 years ago, there was an old archeology museum in Milas.. Artifacts found in the surrounding ancient cities were exhibited in this museum.. At that time, museum officials stated that they would close this place and move to a new location.. During our last visit to Milas, we saw that this place was closed and the Uzunyuva Museum Complex was opened as a museum in Milas.
There are many buildings in the newly built Uzunyuva Museum Complex.. It truly lives up to its name.. The complex includes Hekatomneion Sanctuary, Hekatomnos Grave Monument, Emin Ağa Mansion, Welcome Centre, Milas Carpet Museum and Children’s Activation Center. Uzunyuva museum complex has become a museum that reflects Milas culture and history very well.. Definitely have this beautiful museum complex on your list when you come to Milas.
The entry fee of Milas Uzunyuva Mausoleum and Museum Complex is 12.5 TL per person.. Here museum card is valid. If you have a museum card, you can visit the museum for free.. Hekatomneion Sanctuary and Hekatomnos Burial Monument
History all around Milas hosts the Hekatomnus’ Tomb Monument, which is shown as the discovery of the century in the archaeological world. The Mausoleum of Hekatomnos was built in a position overlooking ancient Milas.. BC to its construction. It was started in the 4th century BC.
Hekatomnos Mausoleum is considered the forerunner of the Halikarnas Mausoleum, which is considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and carries the concept of “Mausoleum” today.. Especially The Frisian Sarcophagus of Hekatomnos is known as the only example in Classical and Hellenistic Anatolia with its size, quality and prominent personality of its owner.. A column in the Mausoleum of Hekatomnus will attract your attention, and there is even a stork’s nest on this column.. This column is Menandros Column of Honor. Above the column is the inscription “The people erected Menandros, the son of Uliades and the grandson of Euthydemus, the benefactor of the country and the son of benevolent people as statues here.”. The mausoleum, which is an impressive place at every point, takes you deep into history.
Emin Ağa Mansion
The historical Emin Ağa Mansion located in Uzunyuva Museum Complex was built in 1890. You can see the culture of Milas and the traditional daily home life of Milas in this beautiful mansion, whose restoration we like very much.
The mansion consists of 2 floors.. The previous version of the mansion is displayed on the lower floor, and traditional clothes and household items are displayed on the upper floor.. When you come to the complex, don’t forget to visit here.
Milas Carpet Museum
Archaopark The famous carpets of Milas are exhibited at the Milas Carpet Museum located within the area.. Carpet museum consists of 2 floors. There are beautiful exhibition areas in the museum, from nomadic carpets to carpet machines.
Natural yarns and dyes are used in the carpets.. You can see all the details in the museum.. Today, the Milas carpet is on the verge of disappearing.
Çöllüoğlu Inn
Our next stop after Uzunyuva Museum Complex was Çöllüoğlu Inn. Unfortunately, this place was closed due to the pandemic.. Çöllüoğlu Inn was built by Abdullah Efendi’s son Hacı Abdülaziz Ağa in 1719-20.. The Çöllüoğlu Inn was named after Tavaslı Hacı Mehmet Çöllüoğlu, who bought this place. consists of. There is also a restaurant where you can eat and drink something.. Location here.
Gumuskesen Monument
Gumuskesen Monument is architecturally accepted as a small example of the Halicarnassus Mausoleum, which is considered one of the seven wonders of the world in ancient times.. The monument, with its magnificent stonework and plan scheme, was built in the 2nd century AD, the reign of the Antonine Dynasty of Rome.. It consists of three parts: the lower floor, which is the monument burial chamber, the second floor with a peristyle, and the pyramidal roof.
Gumuskesen Monument was under restoration when we went.. It was surrounded by fences.. So we couldn’t go inside and visit this place. We barely managed to get a few photos over the fence.. There was a building under construction inside, then we learned that the construction was stopped because this building did not suit here.. It was a very wise decision.. We appreciate the decision.

Firuz Bey (Kurşunlu) Mosque
Places to visit in Milas center and Firuz, dazzling with its architecture Bey Mosque It was built in 1330 during the reign of Orhan Bey. Firuz Bey Mosque, one of the most important works from the Menteşoğulları period, is surrounded by madrasah rooms on the south side.
This place is also known as the Kursunlu Mosque among the people because the upper part of the mosque’s dome is covered with lead.. It is also called the Gök Mosque because the exterior of the mosque is covered with the blue veined marbles of Mount Sodra.. The blue embroideries inside the mosque are magnificent. The interior of Firuz Bey Mosque is small in terms of area but quite impressive in terms of atmosphere.

Ax Gate and Water The arches
The Baltalı Kapı located in the center of Milas has unfortunately been destined to disappear with urbanization.. The Ax Gate was the entrance gate of the royal road to the city during the Ancient Caria period.

Milas Ağa Mosque
Milas Ağa Mosque, located very close to the Baltalı Gate and aqueducts, is one of the oldest mosques in Milas. This is a simple, humble and quite beautiful mosque made of stone.. Feel the atmosphere while you’re here.
Beçin Castle Ruins
Slow we are slowly starting to go out of Milas. Beçin Castle is located very close to the center of Milas. Milas Stone Works Museum (Ahmed Gazi Madrasa)
The only structure in Beçin whose epitaph has survived to the present day, the Ahmet Gazi Madrasa, which is located in the Beçin Castle Ruins, has been restored. It started to serve as the Milas Stone Works Museum.
The museum; Consists of 9 rooms, 2 corridors and 1 courtyard. 35 stone works are exhibited in the museum.. The stone works exhibited were divided into two as the Principalities Period and the Ottoman Period and classified chronologically within themselves.. When you visit Beçin Castle, do not forget to see this place too.
Orhan Cami
Unfortunately, very few remnants of Orhan Mosque, located right across the Milas Stone Works Museum, have survived to the present day..
Evliya Çelebi gave the following information about the Orhan Mosque and its inscription in his Travel Book: -din Orhan Ibn. Masud did it in 732.. May Allah bless his victories”… “There is no minaret and the earth-covered mosque is ancient.. Tulen and al-zaran are floating feet and there are columns on sixteen pine poles in the mosque.”
Kızılhan
Located 10 meters from Orhan Mosque, it was used as an accommodation and commercial inn during the Kızılhan time. Just like Orhan Mosque, this place is in a very ruined condition.
Although there is an inscription section just above the entrance of the inn, there is no inscription about the building that has survived to the present day.. However, due to the similarity of the building with other inns,. It is thought to have been built in the first quarter of the century.. Restoring these places will contribute much more to the development of this cultural area.
Labranda Ancient City
There are plenty of ancient cities in the list of places to visit in Milas.. One of these ancient cities is Labranda Ancient City. Although it is difficult to reach here, it is an ancient city worth seeing.. In fact, the road to the ancient city is asphalted, but so many trucks pass the road that the anatomy of the road is distorted.. It is better to go carefully.

Ancient City of Herakleia (Latmos)

One of the most important structures of the Ancient City of Herakleia Temple of Athena in Milas. The temple is among the best preserved structures of the ancient city.. It is stated that the Milas Athena Temple was built in the name of Athena, the chief goddess of the city.. Convent of the Seven

Ancient City of Iasos

While the area where the city was founded was an island before, the isthmus where the island meets the sea was filled and the island turned into a peninsula.
The important structures of the ancient city are located on this peninsula.. The big city wall, aqueducts, tombs and the structure called the fish market are located outside the city wall.
To reach the ancient city of Iasos, you must reach the village of Kiyikislacik in Milas.. On the way to Bodrum on the Milas Bodrum Airport road, you should turn right to Iasos before the airport.. Since this place is very close to Kiyikislacik Village, you can also visit Kiyikislacik Village.

Iassos Fish Market Museum

Bosphorus Tuzla Lake

Milas Ören
Ören is a holiday resort located 40 km from Milas.. I do not exaggerate, the region where Ören is located has the most beautiful bays of the Aegean.. The sea is like glass and clear. Ören Beach is a public beach, but there are sunbeds and umbrellas for a fee.. The cost of 2 sunbeds and 1 umbrella was 20 TL. The beach has changing cabins and showers, but it’s pretty neglected.
