3.Muscat-Oman travel guide

Muscat, which is the lifeblood of the country, is rich with both places to visit and culture. I like it so much. Omanis, who are very, very warm to us citizens of the Republic of Turkey, is one of the warmest Arab society I have ever seen.. I say this without exaggeration.

Oman visa can be obtained directly from the airport.

This is the best spot you will encounter while visiting this country. will be: The people of Oman are legendary, warm-blooded, helpful and very good people. I’m sure you’ll love it too.

When you come to Muscat, Oman, first of all you need to get the visa thing done.. After landing in Muscat, we go to the visa point right in front of the customs offices.. “Does Oman require a visa?” Let’s give the answer to those who say it right away: He wants a door visa.. So, we pay 5 Rials to get Oman visa and enter the country easily.

Oman Muscat beaches. For those who ask where is Muscat: It is located in the Arabian peninsula.

If you are going to stay more than 30 days, then you will have to pay 20 Rials. Don’t let the Oman gate visa clutter your mind.. You can do it in 5 minutes.

By the way, let’s talk a little bit about the Omani Currency, the Omani Rial. The Sultanate of Oman, like many Arab countries, uses Riyal, but of course with its own currency.. 1 Omani Rial (Omani Rial) is around 0.39 USD. So let me put it this way :

Oman Currency is Omani Rial. The Grand Hyatt Hotel where we stayed

Currency units are almost 8 times more valuable than our Turkish Lira. Our 8 TL is their 1 Omani Rial. But don’t worry, it looks like it’s 8 times worth it.. Prices are accordingly

For example :

  • You can go from Oman Airport (Oman Muscat Airport) to the Grand Hyatt hotel for 10 Omani Dinars.. Vehicles are also very luxurious.. It’s a moderate cost if you are 3-4 people.
  • Oman is a very nice country in terms of tourist attractions entrance prices.. For example, you can enter many places by paying 2 Omani Rials.. Below, I will tell you the prices one by one in the section of places to visit in Muscat.
  • Cola in the market is 0.10-0.20 Omani Rial.
  • Half-liter fruit juice is 0.30 Omani Rial.
  • The little pringless are around 0.20 Omani Rial.
  • We went to restaurants where the people go. Stuffed chicken-rice was 1.5 Riyals.

4. How to get to Muscat? How to get transportation in Oman ?

How to get to Muscat? How is transportation provided in Oman?

Airport : If you are going to Oman by air, your first stop will probably be Muscat. We arrived in Oman at 4:30 minutes after the Turkey-Iran and Gulf route.. THY organizes reciprocal flights to Muscat every day.. Both the planes and the service are very good.

Muscat Travel starts from Istanbul. We arrive in Muscat after 4.30 hours

By the way, let me tell you from the beginning. THY’s international flights are very, very successful.. It deserves all the praise both in terms of service and quality.. Thanks once again, especially to Maşita Memduha Birol, one of the chefs on the plane.. The treats were great.

Transportation in Oman : If you noticed, I didn’t mention either the train or the bus.. Normally you know, I write them all one by one. ‘Cause this time I’ll cut it short. Why ? I recommend renting a car while traveling both in Muscat and Oman.

This is the easiest way to reach the country.. I suggest you travel by renting a car.. Public transport in Oman is not very developed. Before you go to Oman, if you are considering renting a car, have a look at my Car rental abroad post. It will help.

5.What to eat in Oman?

What to eat in Muscat ? What is famous in Oman ? We never went hungry while traveling in Oman. There was always something to eat. Personally, I have never been hungry in a country dominated by Arab culture.

Oman is one of them.. So, now I will tell you about my experience with both Muscat cuisine and Oman food recommendations and restaurants.

Muscat cuisine. Chickens are a must.

Omani Dishes :

  • Breakfasts : We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Muscat. Morning breakfast delight. It was everything you could think of.. Olives, cheeses, all kinds of tropical fruits, eggs and more were on our table.
  • Fattoush salad : I met this salad in Jordan (You can check my Jordan travel guide article.). i liked it a lot. It contains pita bread, sumac, black pepper, tomato, sesame, cucumber, olive oil.. You can find it in many restaurants.. I’m sure you will like it.
  • Pilavs : There are many different types of rice in Omani culture.. In addition to white rice, there are also brown, yellow and orange rice.. My favorites are the yellow and orange ones. Qabuli and makbus pilaf were good.
  • Chicken : They love it. Not only the Omanis, but the entire Arab culture is very successful in chicken.. Without hesitation, I recommend you to eat chicken wherever you come across.. Don’t be fooled by its looks and smell.. They really make it very, very tasty.. Especially the ones cooked on coal fire are delicious.
  • Meats : We ate something called lam shwa. it was great. I would definitely recommend you. You can consume not only this meat, but also other meats comfortably in Oman.
  • Fish. Therefore, I recommend you to taste the colorful fish.. They are also very successful in this business.
  • Beverages : Omani coffee, that is, Omani coffee is very delicious. They generally use tea bags for tea.. But I love it about the coffee. They are served in small cups.
  • Desserts : Khbeesa dessert is delicious. I liked it a lot.

Bait Al Luban restaurant was great for Muscat Cuisine

So, which restaurant to eat in Muscat and Oman?

Bait al luban : We had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant in Muscat. I didn’t know Omani food was this delicious. Both the starters, main courses and desserts we ate were great. Bait Al Luban, one of the best restaurants in Muscat, is located opposite the fish market on the beach.. Quite airy and immaculate. It has become my favorite restaurant.. and yes. A little expensive restaurant. For example, the prices are: Mixed seafood 10,000 Riyals, Lam Shwa 9.000 Riyals, Pilafs 1.500 Riyals, Khbeesa dessert 4.200 Riyals.. But as I said, this is an expensive restaurant, but if you want to pamper yourself for at least 1 night, you should definitely stop by a restaurant in Muscat.

Wadi Shab Resort : This place was actually a hotel.. With its wonderful beach, turquoise sea, people can look at the ocean.. We had a buffet dinner at this restaurant.. Both fish and soups were very good.. You can also benefit from the business by paying 8,000-10,000 Riyals.. I especially recommend you to visit this restaurant before going to Wadi Tiwi.. You can even stay at Wadi Shab Resort for accommodation.. Its pool is still in my mind.

6.Oman and Muscat My Hotel Recommendations

Where to stay in Oman? What are my recommendations for Muscat hotels?

Oman is also a rich country in terms of accommodation.. There are alternatives for almost every budget.. If you want, I can give you suggestions from 3-4 different cities according to budgets.. Thus, we will also have a route.

First, Muscat, the capital of Oman, then Wadi Shab Resort, Wadi Bani Khalid, which we saw on the way, and finally Ras, where we witnessed the spawning moment of the carettas and you can only see at night. take Jinz. If we’re ready, I’ll start !

Muscat Hotels my recommendation : Grand Hyatt

How to stay abroad economically, cheaply I explained, line by line, in my “Economic hotel search engines” article that I rented a hotel-hostel and a house.. I would definitely recommend you to take a look.

Muscat (Muscat) Accommodation Recommendations

Grand Hyatt Muscat : On the day we landed in Mucsat, road fatigue had fallen asleep with. But when it comes to this hotel, there is neither insomnia nor fatigue.. It was an amazing hotel. Both the entrance, the gardens and the rooms were very beautiful.. From the embroidery on the windows to the vast ocean view, everything was wonderful.. Also breakfast. Normally it is the biggest problem for me. But there was no such problem at the Grand Hyatt Muscat.

Waves International Hotel : This hotel is right in the middle of the old city area and the airport.. Accommodation price for 2 people is 214 TL.

Wadi Shab Resort : Even though we did not stay at Wadi Shab Resort, the turquoise sea and calm pool were enough for me.. Designed as a single-storey hotel, all rooms have endless ocean views.. Double room prices start from 450 TL. If you are going to explore the valleys in Oman, I suggest you stay at this hotel.. You will also be comfortable in terms of transportation.

Wadi Bani Khalid is such a place. It is at the top of my list of places to visit in Oman.

Hotel Recommendations in Wadi Bani Khalid

I love Wadi Bani Khalid. It was like an oasis in the desert. I really don’t know how to explain! I never thought it would be such a beautiful place.. Me and my companions left sadly, “I wish we had stayed here for one night!”. I didn’t see any hotel on Booking.. That’s why when you go to the region, you look at places like hostels.

My Ras al Jinz Region Hotel Recommendations

This region is known as a turtle protection zone.. Thousands, if not tens of thousands, of turtles come to the beach to lay their eggs.. You too are witnessing this moment.

Millions of stars accompany you in the sky. I think the most stars I’ve seen in my life were the ones I saw on the night I witnessed the turtles laying eggs in this region.. Have a look at the hotels in Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve. Prices are around 300 TL for 2 people.

I think I have explained in detail the question of Where to stay in Muscat. Next, let me answer the question What to do in Muscat.

7.Entertainment-Shopping-Nightlife in Muscat

Where to shop in Muscat? What to buy in Oman ?

The address of shopping in Muscat is Mutrah Souq, Muscat’s Grand Bazaar. Colorful local clothes, saffron, silk, fragrant essences, handicrafts, gold, silver, ornaments and much more! Make sure this is your address for shopping in Oman.. I would say especially take a look at the gold found in the gold bazaar.

Muscat Address of those looking for shopping : Mutrah Souq

With this Do not return until you are satisfied with the smell of “incense”. It is in the essence of plants such as incense that the people of Oman use in their homes and shops to smell good.

You can see this in many places.. Also, Muscat is a city with shopping malls.. Let your address be Oman Avenues Mall. Whatever you look for, you can find it there.

Muscat Nightlife recommendation: Witness the spawning moments of the carettas and watch the stars in the sky

One of the most fun activities to do in Oman is diving.. we couldn’t. But if you go and have the opportunity, do not come back without diving.. If you have never dived before, then you can do a discovery dive.

I am sure you will love it.. Also, lastly, make sure to go on a desert safari.. These safaris with 4×4 vehicles are very, very enjoyable.. Oman’s deserts and that wonderful sand color…

What about Muscat nightlife ? Don’t expect such nightclubs in Oman. You can go to hookah cafes at most, or you can swim to the beaches as we did and witness the egg-laying moment of the caretta carettas.. In fact, you can also watch millions of stars in the middle of the desert.

You can experience nightlife almost everywhere in the world, but in how many places can you see millions of stars when you raise your head to the sky? I still can’t forget that moment.

Finally, it can be seen in Muscat Festival held in the last weeks of October in Oman, especially in the city of Muscat.. Also, it was possible to organize events in different parts of the country from Eid and Ramadan holidays.

After observing the Omani people praying in the resplendent beauty of the mosque, our next stop is the Muscat Royal Opera House.. We pay 3 Riyals to enter this huge complex for 1,100 people.. I wouldn’t expect. let me admit. I would never have thought that there would be an Opera House in Oman.

Muscat Royal Opera House

I would not be surprised to visit the country. I continue. You ask why ? Because here, legends such as Andrea Bocelli and Placido Domingo have already given their concerts.. If you get the chance to come across a concert, I say go for it.. You can check the official websites of Muscat Royal Opera House.

  • Old Muscat (Old town)

I love to visit the oldest parts of cities.. It smells of history. The memory smells. They dress up as if they were posing for you to take a photo.. We do the same in Muscat and tour the Old town area. We wander around the historical neighborhoods in the region. Then a famous building suddenly appears before us.. Its name is the Sultanate of Oman Palace.

Muscat is one of our stops to see the Old City

The only thing known is, The King of Oman is loved very much and is very fond of art, science and science.. Although Oman is governed by the Kingdom, 83 deputies accompany the country’s government.. Everyone can vote, and as far as I can see, freedom is at the highest level in this country.

  • Muscat Al Jalali and Al Mirani Fortresses

Old from the city area, we are advancing to the coastline. Its real name is Fort Al Jalali (see Fort Al Jalali Wikipedia.) It is a fort built in 1580.. 2 times pressed against the gates by the Ottoman Empire. Afterwards, the Persians tried to seize the castle.. Years later, the castle was repaired by the administration and took its current appearance.. They are the most famous castles in the country.

  • Muscat Kordon aka Muscat Corniche

There is a word in Arab culture: Corniche. It is also in Beirut, it is also in Qatar.. To me it means beach band. Actually, it’s not like that, I understand it like a cord.. Here is this famous Corniche (Pronounced cornice), also in Muscat.

Places to visit in Muscat: Muscat Kordon, Muscat Corniche

9.How many days should we stay in Oman and Muscat ?

How many days should we stay in Oman? What about for Muscat? Let me tell you directly: 1 day is enough for Muscat.

Our guide is Ramadan. He’s a great person.

But for the route in this whole adventure I’m going to tell you, I think 3 days would be enough.. You can visit Muscat for 1 day and other Oman cities in the region for 2 days.

10. What should not be done in Muscat without doing? so many.

  • Without admiring the Sultan Qaboos Mosque

  • The real Oman in the markets of Muscat without exploring
  • Without visiting other cities in the vicinity I mentioned above

  • If you get the opportunity, without watching a show at the Muscat Royal Opera House
  • In the evening, before the sun sets against the Indian Ocean

There are so many places to visit in Oman so that.

must not return. Do not return after living a full day in the capital Oman and turning your route to the beaches where you will witness the wonderful moments where the carettas spawn.

11. What kind of route should one follow in Oman?

As I said; Oman is not just Muscat. I have already told about places to visit in Muscat above.. However, you should also see the cities, beaches, legendary valleys and villages, especially in the south.. I already explained them in my article about places to visit in Oman.

Sur

But in summary; Starting from Muscat, go up to the city of Ty.. From there, make Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve your last stop. Then go back and visit Valley Tiwi and Valley Bani Khalid.

If you do this route, I think you will witness very beautiful views in 3-4 days.. Don’t forget to witness the magnificent moments at Wahabi Sands for the desert view as the sun goes down.

  • No exaggeration a country. They remained faithful to their own culture and texture
  • Warm and summer warm. Especially while we are experiencing the winter, we go even to experience the summer.
  • The beaches and sea are very beautiful.. Oman is very popular not only for its above water but also for its underwater beauty.

Wadi Bani Khalid is such a place. Places to visit in Oman are at the top of my list.

  • There are no overcrowded tourists here.. Quieter.
  • The food is very good. You will never go hungry.

See my post on “Best hotel search engines” on finding a hotel in Oman. I explained all the details in that article

13. How much does a trip to Oman cost?

First of all, let me answer the most important question: Oman is neither too expensive nor too cheap.. and yes. expensive for us. But I guess it’s like 10-20%. I thought I’d summarize your estimated Oman expenses as follows:

The sights we witnessed during our trip to Oman.

  • Transport– Flight ticket prices to Muscat are usually around 1.000 TL. THY organizes daily flights. Especially you can go on Friday evening and return on Monday night.. If you want to get away for 2 days, here is a nice alternative for you.. You need to rent a car while traveling in the country and for transportation within Muscat.. Taxi is expensive. Daily car prices are around 100 TL.
  • Food– Restaurants are moderately expensive. As I said, we randomly entered a restaurant and ate chicken and rice for 1,500 Riyals and it came in huge plates.. But I think 8,000-10,000 Dinars a day might be enough to eat. This is for those who travel with a backpack.. If you want to have a holiday like a holiday, you should reduce your budget to 15,000-25,000 dinars.

See my article on Best hotel search engines about finding a hotel.

  • Accommodation– Accommodations are usually 100-200 TL per person. The price also changes depending on the name of the hotel where you will stay.. But the average is in these numbers.
  • Entertainment- As I said, don’t look for entertainment life in Oman like in Europe.. Very little nightlife. It only happens in hotels.. they will be expensive. You can go to nightclubs of global hotels. But scuba diving, desert safari and witnessing the egg-laying of the carettas are more than enough for fun and enjoyment.
  • Shopping- You can shop in Muscat.. Global brands’ prices are the same as ours. If you shop in the markets, always continue to bargain.

In general; $70-80 a day may be enough for a trip to Oman. I say: It is not a very cheap country.

When it comes to air tickets, be sure to look at my “Best flight and train ticket sites“.. I wrote one by one how to make your flight ticket costs cheaper.

14. When to go to Oman?

When is the best time to go to Oman? When to go to Muscat? it’s winter. But usually you can go between october to april. We went in September.

Wadi Bani Khalid. There was nothing like swimming here.

Yes, it was hot.. I confess. But the most ideal month is December-January. If you have the opportunity, I say go during these months.

15.What are the things I haven’t done in Oman but can suggest you?

  • I didn’t dive. You must do. There are companies in Muscat. get in touch. It’s a little expensive though. Just so you know.
  • I haven’t seen the northern and eastern cities. It was possible to rent a car and make a road trip.. That would be nice.

You will see stray camels everywhere in Oman.

  • I did not stay overnight in the desert. I don’t know if there are companies on this subject. But you must do. I did the same in Jordan.. It was so beautiful. I highly recommend it.
  • I have not been to Al Qurm Park. This park in the heart of Muscat could be seen.
  • I have not visited the museums especially in Oman.. Natural History Museum and National museum could be visited. You can check the museums of Oman.

My warnings about 16.Oman travel

  • Hot. pretty hot. Always have a small bag. Keep spare t-shirts and water inside.
  • Make your reservations early. Prices can increase very quickly.
  • Transportation in the country is not easy.. travel by car. Or sign up with a guide. As I said, Touroman was very helpful in this regard.
  • Also, if you want to go with a tour; get package tours. It would be more economical.
  • Alcohol is not available in most places in Oman.. Available only in Global hotels.
  • Women are required to wear long sleeves when entering mosques.. Bring long sleeves and a scarf with you.

Do not leave Oman without stopping by Ras Al Jinz

Oman surprised me a lot. This country, which I went to without any idea, left dozens of memories in my mind on the way back.. “I would go again. I’m glad I went,” I said.. Oman won me over with its endless valleys, crimson deserts, turquoise sea, friendly people (thanks once again to our guide, Ramadan), delicious food.

How I found cheap flight tickets abroad, which search I explained one by one in my “Best Flight Ticket Search Engines” article that I use. I would definitely recommend you to read it.

I am sure that you will be very pleased with this trip that you will start from Muscat.. Hail to the endless deserts. Continue to explore other cities in Oman with my Oman places to visit.. Imagine. Think about it…
