You can check my Mexico route here.
31- Batopilas
I met The only reason I came here with the German traveler Lars was to find the Tarahumara natives.. How we went, how were the locals, you can watch them all in 3 episodes from the videos. You can find my detailed article about the Tarahumara Indians at this link.
In Search of the Tarahumara Natives 1. Episode
In Search of the Tarahumara Indians 2. Chapter
In Search of the Tarahumara Indians 3. Chapter
The population of Batopilas village is around 2,000. But there are dozens of luxury cars and jeeps in the village.. The reason is that some of the stolen cars in all of Mexico and even America are brought here and sold by breaking down.. Of course, there are also some luxury cars that they do not break down and keep for themselves.. That’s why it’s an interesting village.
Another source of income for the village comes from drug trafficking.. If you are not involved in illegal business, the probability of anything happening to you is very low.. Unless you’re already into photography and the Tarahumara natives, you definitely won’t be coming here.. Believe me, getting here is not as fun and easy as it seems in the videos.
Something extra about security I will not write. This place deserves 10 out of 10 points if you are interested in Tarahumrara natives. 0 points if you’re not interested.
32- Urique
We came here to find Tarahumara Indians just like Batopilas, but unfortunately we didn’t get what we expected.. In this village there is a Tarahumara Indian who has made a world famous barefoot ultra marathon.. We wanted to visit him, but they said it was too dangerous to go to his house on the top of the mountain, definitely not go.. As in mountaineering, we did not try to go because we knew to give up on the summit when necessary 🙂 1 point out of 10.
33- Los Mochis
After spending about 17 days looking for the Tarahuma Indians in and around Creel, I wanted to head towards the ocean side.. That’s why I’m in Los Mochis. No choice but to come here by train from Creel. In fact, there is a road like a village road, but no one uses it because it is extremely dangerous.. That’s why you have to pass by the Chepe train. Train from Creel to Los Mochis 850 pesos(60 usd). Although it is too expensive for a 6-7 hour train journey, there is no other alternative.
I stayed here for just one night and continued to the next stop.. I don’t know what kind of place to eat or drink.. There is no hostel in the city, my friend and I stayed in a room at the hotel for 12 USD per person and continued on our way the next day.
34- Mazatlan
A quiet city by the sea. A place that is neither expensive nor cheap, not very humorous, especially preferred by surfers.. Even though it is a favorite place for Mexican local tourists, it did not appeal to me.
There is one hostel in the city. Generally the prices are reasonable.. Nightlife takes place at the beachside venues and is lively. Mazatlan, which seems safe to me and I don’t see anything to do except surfing, deserves 5 out of 10.
35- Mexico City
It’s a chaotic place you hear from right to left, forget about the concrete rhetoric everywhere. The city is a museum home, art friendly and a beautiful place with large and small parks.. I was surprised to encounter such a city while waiting for an extremely chaotic environment.. The city is a bit confused during commuting and arriving times, sometimes you can’t get on the subway, but that’s all.. After all, we are talking about a place of 25 million people.. In short, I like this place.
I don’t like things like definitely go to that museum, see this place for sure, but definitely go to the Mexican Anthropology Museum. You can see the original artifacts and get very detailed information about the important pyramid, indigenous people and Mexican history in the country here.. There is also a Frida Kahlo museum in Mexico City.. He is someone whose life has been heard all over the world after his unfortunate accident.. I also went to his house, which was turned into a museum.. Don’t have high expectations when you go to Frida’s house, she has very few works.
Touring the city Get a nice tourist map first. Then stop by the places you will go according to how many days you will stay.. If you want to see everything, day and night comfortably, 5-6 days will be enough.. A place that appeals to everyone, rich and poor.. There are very cheap hostels, restaurants where you can eat, and very expensive places at the extreme point.. So Mexico City is a place that appeals to everyone.
Metro line and public transport system good. Transportation prices are cheap. If you think you’ll be using the subway all the time, I’d say get a subway card.. When you load 60 pesos (4 usd) into it, it will take you 3-4 days.. So you don’t have to queue for tickets at the box office all the time.. Let me also say this; The subway stations in Mexico City were the worst smelling and stuffy subway stations I’ve ever been to.. Metro network is good but management sucks. The metro works until 12 at night, not 24 hours.. It’s really weird and nice to see the artworks and museum-style places in such awfully run subway stations.
What you can look for in nightlife for every budget, but the Mexicans I see are out there. she likes house parties more than having fun.
While you’re here, you can also see the Atatürk statue on La Reforma street. I say visit it.
I think the city is quite safe during the day. At night, the side streets can be troublesome.. I did not experience anything bad, I did not feel it, but it is necessary to take precautions.. After all, it’s a place where people from all walks of life live.. Mexico City deserves a score of 9 out of 10.
36- Puebla
1 day or more thanks to the beauty of the old city center A place to visit for 2 days. If you don’t have much time in Mexico and you are ready to come to Mexico City, I say stop by.. Other than that, it’s not a place to come and see.. I did not feel any security problems. Deserves 6 out of 10.
37- Veracruz
I’ve only been here in Veracruz. The city doesn’t have much of a joke. By the sea, but the sea is not beautiful. The city center is completely covered by the port.. And the smell of the port is disturbing. Around Veracruz, there are areas where you can stay in the forest, close to the sea.. I couldn’t go there because I didn’t have much time left.. He doesn’t have much humor by only talking about the city of Veracruz, but I will visit other parts of it, if you say mix with nature, you can come.. I can’t give a rating because I didn’t walk around properly.
39- Tehuantepec
The reason for my stay here; now that I’m going to Guatemala, it was to slowly approach the border.
I stayed for 2 days with a friend I found from Couchsurfing. Home life was one of the toughest conditions I’ve ever seen in Mexico.. I say watch the video below.
The city is not a touristic place at all. There’s nothing to see. You can go to Juchitan region for the day like I did or you can stay there directly.. Unfortunately there is no hostel.. That’s why staying at a hotel can be expensive for backpackers.. On its own, calm, it seemed like a safe place to me. I don’t give points.
40- Tapachula
This was one of the places where I was most surprised. I thought I would see a lot of backpacks, but I never met a backpack on the way or crossing the border.. As far as I understand, it is not a border crossing point that travelers often use.. They usually cross over to Guatemala by Chiapas.. Culture is unlike anywhere to be seen, as it is a border city.. I’m skeptical about security.. My advice to you is definitely not to use the night bus while coming here and do not exceed this limit at night.
