Mexico Travel Notes -3-

You can check my Mexico route here.

11 and 38 – Oaxaca City
I can say that it is a more urbanized version of San Critobal.. There are no Mayans here, there are Zapotecs. They also have their own language, their own unique clothes, food and even pyramids.. Nice place to see culture and cheap for backpackers. You can find many old churches, museums to visit in the city center.. You can get a tourist map from where you stay and visit the places in the center in one full day.. Around the city, like Pamukkale, there are Hierve El Aqua, a 2,000-year-old tree, places where mezcal, a kind of alcohol, is made, and the Monte Alban pyramids.. You can go to Monte Alban by yourself with the minibuses departing from the center, do not join the tour.. But going with the tour made sense to me because it comes at the same price.

Safe, Oaxaca City deserves 8 points out of 10.

12- Huatulco
I don’t know exactly why I went here. I probably came to land on the ocean side. Ordinary place by the sea. I say don’t ever. You can also watch the house I found on couchsurfing from the link. A place that seems safe. I don’t rate.

13- Juchitan
I came here twice at different times. Definitely not a tourist place. You can’t find a hostel, only a hotel. Ideal place if you want to see real Zapotecs. There is a very large covered market in the city center that is famous. Inside you can find everything from shoes to cooked iguanas. Interesting place, interesting city. It’s good from a photographic point of view, but if you’re not interested in culture and photography, this place might be extremely boring for you.

Looking safe Juchitan deserves 6 points out of 10.

14- Mazunte
Full hippie place. A beach town where young people hang out and girls who say I’m free go to the sea topless. Prices are considered reasonable. The sea is beautiful, it is very nice to stay in hostels by the beach.. Watch the video and you will understand what I mean.

It’s very nice to watch the sky with the sound of the ocean at night, as there is not much residential area around and therefore not much light.. There is a very beautiful hill where you can watch the sunset, half an hour’s walk away.. Go early, take your food and drink with you and have a picnic against the view.. Mexico was one of the most relaxing and beautiful places during my trip.

A close to Mazunte There is also a river where you can see crocodiles and iguanas in their natural habitat.. You can join the tour for 10 usd and go there.. It’s not bad, but not terrific. The safe Mazunte deserves 9 points out of 10.

15- Puerto Escondido
A more urbanized version of Mazunte. It has 3-4 big beaches.. Nice place for those who want to surf. On some of the beaches, you can witness the baby turtles meeting with the sea for the first time.. You may want to go here after watching the video from the link πŸ™‚

What makes this place beautiful for me is that it is very close to Laguna De Manialtepec lake. The peculiarity of this lake is that blue phosphors appear at night when there is the slightest movement in the water.. You can join one of the night tours with 20 usd.. You go by boat and swim in the lake in pitch black. Everywhere becomes blue as you move. It’s a little hard to explain, I’m sharing the photos below. Now everything is fine, but this lake is full of crocodiles during the day and you are swimming in the night.. According to the tour guide, it’s okay since the crocodiles sleep at night πŸ™‚

The beach for nightlife You may be interested in the bars next to. Prices are mediocre. The score I gave this fantastic lake is 10 out of 10, and Puerto Escondido is 7.

16- Acapulco
The city is the same as ours like Antalya. A place with long and beautiful beaches. The city is crowded with local tourists from Mexico City, especially on weekends.. No hostels, hotels are expensive. Definitely not a cheap place for a backpacker. I stayed in a house with a pool and interesting cats that I found on Couchsurfing.. You can watch the video from the link.

This was one of the rare places that did not haunt me during my Mexico trip.. Everything is fine when hanging out in the center, but things change a little when you enter the side streets.. I don’t recommend the back streets, especially at late hours.. While I was eating at a restaurant with my friend whose house I was staying at during the day, the man at the next table reached out under the table you know and showed him a small package called spit, spit, take cocaine.. No, I said I’m not interested.. After 5 minutes, the man handed me 2 small packages this time.. He said take it, try it for free. Even though I said I’m not interested, we couldn’t get rid of the man’s harassment and we left the restaurant.. My landlord said this kind of thing is normal here. So it’s not a bad example for you to understand the city πŸ™‚

Dangerous cliff jumps are one of the things that make this city famous. It is really enjoyable to watch the athletes jumping into the sea from 30 meters.. Watch the video from the link and you’ll understand what I mean.

Night life, beachside bars and bars in the central area takes place in clubs. But if you want to have fun in a solid place, there are a few places 3-4 km away from the center and a little on the hill.. Thanks to my landlord, he took me there too.. What Istanbul’s night view of the Bosphorus is in these places is the same.. Prices are affordable according to the quality of the environment and the view.

I couldn’t see Acapulco as a very safe place as I had to walk by checking my back from time to time.. I don’t think you will have any problems if you don’t leave the center. I give it a score of 7 out of 10.

17- Zihuatanejo
The last scene of The Price of Bondage was shot here. That’s why I came here and stayed for 3 days. A classic seaside town. It is not possible to see any backpackers. There are tourists but older Americans. If you are not interested in the movie, don’t stop by here, I say skip it.

Zihuatanejo, which I can say safe deserves 7 out of 10 for the movie.

18- Manzanillo
This is one of the cities I don’t know why I went to.. I probably stopped by to catch a breather on my way to Puerto Vallarta.. I spent 5-6 days here after I got very comfortable in Lucia’s house with a pool, which I found from CouchSurfing.. You can watch the video from the link. Nothing to do, an ordinary beach town that can’t be. Just in case, there is a park in the center where iguanas live in their natural habitat and the entrance is free, you can stop by there.. There are also a few different animal species inside.

Another experience I had here is at university. It was when a working lecturer found me and invited me to the university.. The aim is to introduce Turkey to university students and to share my travel experiences with them.. You can watch the speech summary from the video in the link. I don’t rate Manzanillo, the safe place.

19- Punta De Mita
The only reason I come here is Isla, the hidden beach was to see the island of Marietas. He doesn’t have much of a joke other than there.. You cannot go to the island by your own means, you have to take a tour.. Tours are also around 30 usd. It is not possible to find any lower. The person I was staying at from Couchsurfing did a favor for me and arranged it for half the price.. Don’t ask if you can come here just for a small island, watch the video below πŸ™‚

There is Sayulita district, also called hippie place, close to here. There are hostels and camping areas by the sea. An ideal and affordable place for backpackers.

The ultra-safe Punta De Mita deserves 6 points out of 10, and Isla Marietas deserves 10 points.

20- Puerto Vallarta
It’s overly touristy and crowded with mostly American tourists. It is possible to find them everywhere, day and night.. I didn’t like this place very much because it bothered me a bit, but it is a city that values art.. Even the sidewalks have traces of art. Enjoyable walks can be made by the beach in the evenings.. You can think like our Izmir cordon length.. Prices are considered reasonable. I stayed in a nice house I found on Couchsurfing. You can watch the video from the link.

Nightlife is lively but everywhere is full of tourists. Prices are high for backpackers. For me Puerto Vallarta deserves 7 points out of 10.
