Mallorca Travel Guide and Places to Visit in Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca
Mallorca Travel Guide! We visited Palma in April 2016. Normally, we, who research a city and take notes before visiting it, went completely spontaneously this time.. One week before our trip to Barcelona, we watched ‘The Night Manager’ and fell in love with Palma (the series is set in Mallorca) and when we found a cheap flight ticket from Barcelona to Palma, we felt like we had won the lottery and bought the tickets immediately. We found it in Palma.
As it was the end of April, there was no swimming part of course, but the weather was better than Barcelona and we were able to walk around in shorts.. So, let’s come to the part of describing our trip
Mallorca Travel Guide – When and how to get to Mallorca?
The direct flight from Turkey to Palma has not yet been reached. none . But if you fly from Turkey to Madrid, Valencia or Barcelona, you can easily find a plane ticket to Palma from there.. We bought our Barcelona – Palma flight for 20 Euros one way.. (It’s even expensive by Ryan Air standards.) These planes are very low budget, don’t think that they will land us halfway in the air, they are never a poor quality airline and are extremely safe.. We can even say that it is much better than Vueling Airlines, the Spanish company’s own company. capital city (called Palma de Mallorca). Famous palace cub houses of celebrities such as Michael Douglas and Catherina Zeta Jones are located in Santa Ponça and Port d’Antratx in the southwest of the island, and these regions are generally preferred for sea-sand-sun holidays. being done. If it’s summer time and you want a sea vacation, you can stay in Palma for 2 days and visit the historical sites and spend the rest of your time by staying close to the beaches of Santa Ponça and Port d’Antratx.. Cala Barca region is another sea holiday alternative. However, since we went to Mallorca at the end of April, we stayed in Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the island, and it was a sightseeing holiday rather than a sea holiday for us.
We went to Palma by the sea. If you are coming for the holidays, we can recommend mid-June to mid-September.. If you are coming in the rest of the time, you can hang out in Palma and drink a lot of Sangria like us, don’t worry if there is no sea
Inner City Transportation in Mallorca – Airport Transportation
Palma’s airport is extremely organized. Buses depart regularly from the airport to the city center.. You can take the bus number 1 or 21 to go to the city center.. One way price is around 5 Euros. You are in the city center in half an hour.. You can also hear the bus at intermediate stops, you can get off at a stop close to your hotel.. Another alternative is of course a taxi, but we don’t know the price since we didn’t take it
Likewise, you can easily go anywhere in the city by bus.. But if you want to visit the whole island and try different bays, public transportation will force you because there are no or very limited buses for long distances.. The most logical thing is to rent a car at an affordable price.
The only thing we didn’t like about transportation in Palma was the bike paths.. The bike paths are very carelessly arranged and constantly mingle with the pedestrian path. While you are walking innocently on the road, you are suddenly stuck between the bicycles, both back and forth and left and right.. Especially while walking on the road in the port area, we had to constantly check our backs.. Do not think that we do not support cyclists, we are also bike lovers and in our home city of Frankfurt, we bike everywhere and we love cycling too much.. Despite this, we were uncomfortable with bicycles in Palma because pedestrians were always victims.
Mallorca Travel Guide – Accommodation in Mallorca
If you want to stay in the center The ‘Passeig del Born’ and ‘Plaça Mayor’ are ideal. If you choose your hotel in this region, you can visit the city without using any public transport.. We stayed at ‘Hostal Bonany’ close to the port area. Although the location is not as nice as a Passeig del Born, it was a 15 minute walk to the old town (Old Town) area. We no longer need to use public transport. Rooms were clean and very spacious.. We paid 50 Euros per room including breakfast per day.. When you think of it in terms of price-performance, it is maximum.. We can recommend it to you too.
If you’re going on your honeymoon and you want a more elegant and beautiful place, close to the center, we can recommend Innside by Melia Palma Center.
And if Booking.com, you can get 15 Euros back on your stay by using this link ?
Places to Visit in Mallorca – Mallorca Travel Guide
Port Area – Mallorca Travel Guide
This is one of the liveliest places in Palma. Since it is also a marina, you must have guessed that the places around the marina are twice as expensive as the old town.. At the same time, there are many nightclubs around and they are open until the morning.. In this port part, Spanish young people usually consume the alcohol they brought with them by the beach, while Germans also hang out with ‘roof tops’.. Did we mention that the island is under German occupation? They even exaggerated and tried to buy a term candidate.. Even now, it still says German under some signs.. Good thing they didn’t get it anyway. Right in this port area, 4-floor ‘Tito’s’ is Palma’s most famous nightclub and open until very late.
Bellver Castle
Spain’s most famous nightclub Bellver Castle, one of the most beautiful castles, was at the top of our travel list.. There is also an Archeology Museum and sculpture exhibition in the castle area.. Also, sneering at the view of Barcelona, we loved looking down on Palma! Entrance is around 3 Euros and the bus leaves from the city center.. If you don’t want to take the bus, you can walk.. The walk from the port area takes about 20-30 minutes.. (Of course, we did not break our tradition and walked.)
Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca
The construction of this cathedral, which has a Gothic architecture, started in the 1300s.. Gaudi, who overhauled Barcelona once, couldn’t rest easy, came to this cathedral after centuries and repaired it.. Since the cathedral is right by the sea, you will definitely come across it.. We liked the inside, too.
Palma Almudania Palace
This palace is just across the cathedral.. This palace was used by the Spanish and Catalan kings at the time.. You can see the Arabian baths inside. Also, the garden of this palace is very beautiful.. Palm trees, fountains, whatever you are looking for. It took us 15 minutes to tour the palace and half an hour to take pictures in its garden!
Passeig del Born
This boulevard with palm trees is one of the most touristic places of Palma and restaurants, ice cream shops and souvenir shops. full. Since it is very close to the cathedral, you can take a coffee-ice cream break here.. It’s also very close to our favorite ‘S’Hort del Rei’ garden. This lovely garden-park is right next to the cathedral and there are various fountains in it.. We took our ice cream from the ice cream shops lined up in Passeig del Born and took an ice cream break in the park.. Although, we can say that this authentic and historical square in Palma, closed to traffic, is exactly the heart of Palma.. Street performers, souvenir shops, local restaurants, Burger King if you don’t want a local restaurant, and tapas shops if you don’t like it.. A square in short
Old Town (Old Town)
This district is 18. It stays within the city walls, which were built to protect from pirates in the century.. It has historical houses and huge gates that are at least a century old.. The best way to visit this part is to get lost in its streets.. And of course, exploring restaurants, drinking lots of sangria and eating tapas! Also, there are very beautiful gates in this area.. If our time was not limited, we could have stopped in front of every door and had a photo taken.
Then, let’s come to the food and beverage section
Badal Burger: This is the hamburger place in the old town and especially We can say that we have become slaves of potatoes. There are many different types of hamburgers with affordable prices.. Ideal for a lunch. (Of course, it is among the reasons why we returned from Spain with +2 kilograms)
Lizarran: This tapas restaurant in the Playa Major region is definitely a must in Palma.. The best tapas we ate during our 7-day Spain holiday (5 days in Barcelona) were those of Lizarran. Tapas prices range from 1-3 Euros, Sangrias are around 3 Euros.. In addition, the waiters show the newly released tapas to the tables immediately.. You can go to this place with your eyes closed.
Es Rebost Bistro: This is one of the restaurants we ‘can’t skip’. We sat in this tiny place we saw while walking around the Old Town without hesitation.. We thought that since the decor is very nice, the food is also good.. (Mistake!) How should we know that when people order meatballs (meatball), they will bring raw ground beef!? We had a fork or two until we realized that the meat was completely raw, and we’ve been thinking about it all day.. Maybe there is such a dish, but it may be our ignorance, but what the hell is this?. The owners of this restaurant probably wanted to experiment and bring most dishes raw.. If you come across this restaurant, pass by
Quina Creu Tapas Restaurant:Here’s another real tapas restaurant. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy with soft music in the background and plates of tapas and cocktails in front, this is the place.. Although the service was a bit slow, both the tapas were good and the prices were reasonable.. We had a dinner here and drank sangria and had a nice mash.. It’s worth a try if you’re on your way.
Mise en Place: We don’t have to drink sangria all the time, people want to drink coffee from time to time! This is a small-tiny-beautifully designed patisserie in the side streets of the Old Town and has very nice desserts.. If you want to walk for two hours and take a coffee break for an hour like us, you’re welcome
Ca’n Joan De S’aigo: We really liked this breakfast place we went to, on recommendation.. By breakfast, of course, there is no scrambled egg or menemen, but they did a good job compared to the Europeans without breakfast! There are different types of toasts, croissants and omelettes. If you don’t like having breakfast at the hotel, you can try breakfast here.
Tito’s: Although Palma is not an ‘Ibiza’ in terms of nightlife, it is quite lively.. Since we came to Palma after spending 5 days in Barcelona and stayed outside in Barcelona until very late, we couldn’t see a night club in Palma in the evenings and we fell asleep early.. If we didn’t fall asleep we wanted to try this place. This 5 storey night club is the most lively place of Palma.. If you’re looking for music-dance-late entertainment, let’s get you here!
Finally, we went on the second day Caves of Drach’ tour in Palma. let’s tell. Palma’s caves are very famous and the guys have done very well to make it a tourist attraction.. Half-day ‘Caves of Drach’ tours are organized to this cave, which is 1.5 hours away from Palma.. The bus stops at ‘Orquidea Majorca Pearls Factory’ and if you want to buy pearls, you can buy them both cheaply and directly from the manufacturer.. There is also a museum section where different pearls are exhibited.. Since we were not interested in pearls, this part did not appeal to us, but we loved the cave.
You reach the cave by descending 300 steps and after you walk around the cave with a guide, they give you a music concert inside the cave.. After the concert, the boat tour starts and you go to Lake Martel by boat.. We came back very satisfied because we love to visit the cave, forest area, bear den.. The tour is 35 Euros per person but you can negotiate. You can book the tour online or by asking the consultation at your hotel.
That’s all we will tell you about Palma de Mallorca for now.. This time was short lived, but Palma is not a very big city after all, but it is one of the most beautiful places to go as a boutique holiday destination in Spain.
We loved it, we hope you will too.
