As you know, Stockholm is one of the most expensive cities in Europe.. But of course, I will not give up going to a city just because it is expensive, on the way we set out by saying that the traveler knows no borders.. Especially if this is a place that has been my dream for many years.. I know there are people like me among you. That’s why I owe it to myself to prepare this list of low-budget places so that my friends who have had the idea of going to Stockholm don’t give up on their dreams just because the city is expensive.
Our 3-day trip to Stockholm was my birthday present. We had just gotten married and planning a trip to Stockholm just one month after September, when we preferred to go to Singapore with Bali instead of having a wedding, was a job worthy of us.. As you can imagine, the budget of our 10-day South Asia trip in September was very high; but it doesn’t suit us to go off course because of a food and drink issue. We spent 1600 TL in 3 days, including airport transfers and museum entrances, on our Stockholm tour that we made in mid-October, making McDonalds our closest friend.. This is an incredibly small travel budget for Stockholm.. If you ask how we did it, I say let’s start our 3-day taste tour.
Important note before the list: It is highly beneficial to plan one of your meals as McDonald’s, health listen to the words of their organizations during your trip to Stockholm. A Big Mac menu is about 30 liras, which means it’s one of the most affordable food options in the city.. Also, I would like to point out that there is a Mc in every street, you will not have to search for a restaurant during your trips.. Of course, there are some rules to be able to return 1,600 TL from a 3-day tour of Stockholm..
List of Cheap Places in Stockholm
#1 Kaffe Bar, Södermalm:
We went to Kaffe Bar on Hornsgatan Street in Södermalm one evening. A place that looks like a mini and surprises with its snack options on the counter. The machine serves coffee, but their Cortado was really good. While I was sipping my Cortado, Okan was enjoying his Macchiato. Kaffe Bar, our first stop in Stockholm. It turned out pretty good for a place where we sat by chance.. After 6 pm they prepare croissants with cheese and ham, mini bruschetta. Dessert options were also very good.. Keep in mind for the Söder tour. Prices are reasonable compared to the region average. There is free wifi in the sitting area, not in the front of the cafe.
#2 Wayne’s Coffee, Södermalm:
What Starbucks is to us, Wayne’s Coffee is to Stockholm. I think their coffee is somewhere between Starbucks and Nero and their food is definitely way above a chain coffee place.. We had our breakfast at Wayne’s Coffee 2 days in a row, -for a tour program where we took an average of 23,000 steps a day- we never felt hungry until our lunch.. Sandwich options are plentiful and you also have ham-free alternatives.. Portions are large, served with salad.. The sweet part is no different from the salty part.. In addition to coffee, tea varieties are also very suitable for our taste.. This has become one of my favorite places in the city with free and unregistered wifi. We paid an average of 60 TL for a breakfast for two and our coffees.. Again, according to city and regional standards, it is a very successful place in terms of price and quality performance.. It is located at many different points in the city, we preferred the one on the Söder side.
#3 Viking Bar, Hornsgatan:
Since we stayed in the Södermalm area during our Stockholm trip, we spent most of our evenings in this neighborhood. The nightlife is very lively here and many alternative venues are waiting for you to spend a good evening.. In honor of my birthday, we thought that we should go to a good place and have a glass or two, but when we couldn’t find a place in Akkurat, which is famous for its beer varieties, we found Viking when we weren’t too upset about the situation and started looking for a new place.
After all, we were in Sweden, and we met our new place by saying that one wants to enter a little Scandinavian place.. It’s not a very new place, it’s like the bars of summer places in the decor of the ship.. Our aim is to taste Scandinavian beers, in this sense, we are in the right place.
When the waiter comes to order, we order our beers, and as a typical tourist move, we are in the right place. we asked for wifi password. However, our young waitress did not understand us.. We repeated our question several times but it doesn’t work. We saw that we could not get along, I handed the phone to the waiter and said in English, “Can you write the password?”. What is this?!!?!? Someone says, ‘My sister, if you had told me you were Turkish!’. both in Turkish. Aaaa, the waiter is very Turkish! Yes, here we are, the couple who found themselves the Turkish-run Swedish bar in the middle of Södermalm, in the whole of Stockholm!
From this moment on, everything is on our side. We drank our Nordic beers, ate our potatoes. The bill came, it’s cheaper than living in Beşiktaş. We paid 25 TL for two beers and chips.. I don’t know if these prices were real or if we ate and drank at a discount because we are Turkish.. If you happen to be here, go to Viking and state that you are Turkish.. J Of course we spent the rest of our evenings here.
#4 Kaffekoppen & Chokladkoppen, Gamla Stan:
Must stop during Gamla Stan tour, super tourist spot of the old town. Despite facing Stortorget Square, prices are not too high. Also, since you choose such places in this city, it’s okay to treat yourself to a Stockholm classic.. Unlike the highly touristy places, the prices are not high.
Kaffekoppen and Chokladkoppen are sister cafes under the colorful houses in the square.. The menu of these two places is the same, since they are very small inside, I suggest that those who wonder about their taste should sit down without questioning the place they find empty.. The architecture of the houses has been preserved in the same way, the stairs and the interior texture are definitely the kind that take you on a journey into the past.. If nothing else, come here just to experience these feelings.
Kaffekoppen our cafe with soup, sandwich and dessert options. Although the menu is not very extensive, it is sufficient in terms of options.. Chokladkoppen is our boutique chocolate cafe.. The cake and cheesecake options you will see on the counter at the entrance are so beautiful that you can lose your mind.
My suggestion; You have to come to the two venues once at separate times.. Since the portions are large, it will be difficult for you to order dessert after eating; but I don’t want you to be deprived of these flavors because you are full.. When you go to Kaffekoppen, you can eat a vegetarian sandwich and taste Kanelbullar, Sweden’s special cinnamon bun.. Those who return from Chokladkoppen without drinking hot chocolate do not pass through security at the airport, take your precautions. Don’t forget to order a slice of that day’s cake with it.
#5 Vau de Ville, Norrmalm:
We came to Normalm, one of the prominent shopping streets of the city. we take a tour. I seem to hear you say we’re always going to eat McDonald’s. Let’s make some changes today! Vau de Ville; French brasserie in the center of Norrmalm, with the title of the city’s smallest cocktail bar.
The menu includes classics from French dishes and aperitif options, higher quality than a bistro.. Prices are moving in that direction too.. I think this was the most expensive place we went to in Stockholm.. However, we did not experience much loss in our budget.. If you’re here at noon and the weather is nice, you can sit outside and have a glass of wine.. It’s a pleasure to sit here and watch Stockholmers while drinking your wine.
#6 Fabrique, Mariatorget:
We found Fabrique on Foursquare while looking for a different alternative for our last morning in Stockholm.. This is a bakery. In addition to very delicious breads and donuts, they also offer a selection of brewed coffee and organic tea.. Fabrique has over 10 branches in the city, our preference is again in Söder.. There is no free wifi in the venue and you may have some trouble with English; but the menu is quite delicious. Let me note here that Fabrique is considered the highest quality bakery in Stockholm.. All their products are made with natural materials, you can understand this as soon as you enter the oven.. Not too expensive for a place where everything is organic and natural.
#7 Drop Coffee Roasters, Mariatorget:
The best precaution to take against the cold days in Stockholm is to take small breaks in those beautiful coffee shops that adorn the city streets.. If you want to raise the bar a little bit, we are waiting for you at Drop, our award-winning coffee shop in Södermalm, who has won the Barista Cup twice.. Another feature of Drop; ‘fair-trade’ in the export of coffee beans. The organic brewed coffees here are delicious.. If you are looking for breakfast with your coffee, I recommend you to taste the Swedish sandwiches.. You are in the right place to experience the ‘fika’ coffee breaks that Swedes take on average four times a day.. There is wifi, the environment and the music are very peaceful.
#8 Johan & Nyström, Mariatorget:
Johan & Nyström, located on the corner, just across the street from Drop, is another good coffee shop in Stockholm. Our bar, which offers freshly brewed coffee and organic tea varieties, is nothing short of Drop.. In fact, I think it’s a bit more preferable for me.
It’s possible to taste Swedish flavors at another award-winning cafe.. Like Drop, Johan & Nyström prefers organic beans. Tea mixes are very successful, they all smell good. Compared to Drop’s modernist and Scandinavian architecture, this one is more eclectic and colorful. Of course, the influence of Nordic lines is always essential.. Let me state that it opens between 11-12 on Sundays, do not stay at the door. Don’t forget to bring home a pack of tea and coffee if you have room in your suitcase.
