Krakow Kazimierz District

Kazimierz District, located by the

Vistula river, 2. Before the World War II, it was the center of the Jews in Europe.

In this region, we go to the Catholic side first.. I am encountering a much larger area than I thought.. The interesting thing is that the exteriors of the churches here are surrounded by walls.. Because some people came and harmed the churches, they solved the solution by building a wall around them.

Now the Jewish region is next… 60,000 Jews lived in this area before the war, now? there are only 300 jews. There are synagogues on almost every corner in this area, but it was in ruins during the wartime Holocaust(genocide). Currently only 2 synagogues are open for worship. We get into the most visited of them. Its stained-glass windows continue to dazzle as they did on the first day.. Very neat and clean inside. They are paying even more attention since there are only 2 left.. The synagogues, which are not open at the moment, were used as libraries.

Currently, there are 16 synagogues that are used as Jewish history museums.. It is also useful to see the old synagogue from the 19th century. Kazimierz close to the main square, an antiques market is set up. We get off here and take a quick tour of the market.. Don’t be fooled by my saying it’s a market, there are a maximum of 15 stalls.. Just across from here, a big market is established 2 days a week, but this is the market where you know potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers.

Soup and Sausage Festival is held in this area.. At the soup festival, everyone brought their soups and competed on which one was better.. In the hot dog festival, an award is given to the person who eats the most hot dogs in a certain time zone.

There are many small cafes and restaurants in Kazimierz’s main square.. The house where Helena Rubenstein was also born is on this square, but it now serves as a restaurant.

Across here is the most famous and richest synagogue in the region, and next to it is the Jewish cemetery.. On the high walls in the garden of the synagogue, there are marble tablets arranged in such a way that there are no gaps.. These tablets were made to commemorate the survivors of the war and those who were killed by their families.. For example, on a tablet it says “Farber Family, 1939 -1945, 88 people were killed”. The number “88” is only the number of people who were killed among the members of that family.. I look at the tablets on the walls, “26, 32, 59,96, 117,…” The numbers go like this. It hurts me even trying to collect. We leave, saying that their souls may rest in peace.

In the middle of the square at the exit, there is a stone erected in memory of the murdered Jews.. From there we get in our vehicle and cross the river.. There is also a large square here.. There are many chairs in the square.. During the Genocide, 1,700 people were massacred in one day here and in a lower street of this square.. They brought the elderly, women, children, weak and weak men they gathered from the ghetto here.. They burned the men and the elderly in this square and the women and children in a lower street on a Thursday.. Since then, this area has been known as “Bloody Thursday“.. The name of the stop in this area is still known as “Gestapo station” and the sign at the entrance reads 1941-1943.

On the right side of this square, the walls surrounding the old ghetto (1941-1943) are 15 meters long, which is not destroyed. we see part of. They built these walls round, not flat, so that they look like tombstones.. In this way, they would be able to create a psychological pressure on people by creating a feeling of death.

You should definitely see the night of Kazimierz Region. There is a bohemian fun here… The places you can choose; Singer, Propaganda and Alchemia. Polish cuisine is very similar to Austrian and Hungarian cuisine.

As Krakow is a cheap city, accommodation is very cheap.. You know, who settled in quality hotels here for a very small fee.. I can recommend Topolowa Residence as accommodation in Krakow..
