Georgia Attractions

Georgia is a country in the magnificent geography of the Caucasus Mountains in the Eastern Black Sea Region.. It borders with Georgia, Turkey, Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan.. Georgia has the distinction of being the first country where we can travel from Turkey with an identity card.. Geography of Georgia is really worth seeing. It amazed me with its big cities, canyons, caves and historical monuments.. What did we hope for on this road that we set out with no route? What did we find?

Don’t forget to follow me on my social media accounts Instagram:

Cities, cathedrals, canyons you must see in Georgia in this article and you will find caves. When my article is finished, I hope you will have information about Georgia.

1.Batum

Batumi is the first of the big cities closest to Turkey. Georgia It is one of the most visited places with its identity, and the ability to reach the city without taking even half an hour after crossing the border, its beaches like the Mediterranean coast, its famous nightlife and casinos.. You can easily visit Batumi in one day, but if you spare at least two days, it can be a nice holiday.. You can read more in my Places to see in Batumi. If I were to list Batumi places to see briefly;

  • Ali and Nino Love Monument
  • Alphabet Tower
  • Medea Statue
  • Piazza Square
  • Astronomical Clock
  • Botanical Garden
  • Inverted House

2. Kutaisi

One of the oldest cities in the world, Kutasisi is 4000 years old. While caves in the Kutaisi Region drag you into the age of dinosaurs, where did I come from with its waterfalls and canyons? It promises you to live legendary days that make you say. I should open a separate section for Kutaisi. In short, it is a very large area that is too beautiful to be overlooked.. If you like nature like me, maybe the most beautiful place in Georgia. Click here to write Kutaisi. If I briefly list the places to see in Kutaisi;

  • Prometheus Karst Cave (Cave)
  • Okatse Canyon
  • Kinchkha Waterfall
  • Satoplia Caves
  • Gochkadili (Martvili Canyon)
  • Bagrati Cathedral
  • Gelati Monastery
  • Niko Berdzenishviili Kutaisi State Historical Museum

  • Tskaltubo

3. Tbilisi

Tbilisi is the largest city in Georgia. When Tbilisi is mentioned, the words city of art comes after. A real sea for travelers who love to travel around the city.. A city where you can travel comfortably, have fun and get enough of art in two days.. You can reach us with direct flights from Turkey.. we went by car. You can click here for a more detailed Tbilisi article.. If I were to list Tbilisi landmarks briefly;

  • Bridge of Peace
  • Friday Mosque
  • Narikala Castle
  • St. Trinity Cathedral
  • Rezo Gabriadze Theater
  • Mtatsminda Park
  • Metekhi Church
  • Kartlis Deda Statue
  • Instagram photographers’ favorite historical apartments

4. Kazbek

Kazbek was a must on my list of places to visit in Georgia. Many of my mountaineering friends have climbed this mountain.. Of course we weren’t there to climb. We wanted to see the smoky mountain of the Greater Caucasus, even from afar.. The summit of the mountain is at an altitude of 5033 meters and is usually climbed in July.. Even then the summit is always snowy. The place we went to is the hotel zone where mountaineers make their final preparations before climbing and stay.. You can also camp. Since Kazbek is too important to be glossed over with two words, I devoted a separate page to it.. You can find that article here. How to camp in Kazbek? you can find in that article.

5. Gergety Trinity Church

Kazbek When you look at the hotel area, you will see a church on a green hill.. With night lighting and the view of Kazbek and the full moon behind it, it has been so engraved in my memory that I cannot forget it.. You can’t get there by normal vehicle.. You need to rent a car or you have to climb that hill on foot.. It takes about 40 minutes to climb.. You can click here to learn how we went to Gergety Trinity Church.

I have listed the places you need to see on the way to Mount Kazbek.. In which country is Mount Kazbek? You can find it in my post.

  • Gadauri Panorama, Russia–Georgia Friendship Monument
  • Ananuri

6. Mtskheta Jevari

I’m literally lost in the tour brochures I collected from Tbilisi. We have no phone and no internet. We proceed completely by asking questions.. The problem is that no one knows two steps ahead. There is no one left that I do not show the photo of Mtskheta Jevari . No one speaks English. Even those who run restaurants right on the edge of this view look like I’m asking for a place in space.. And they get angry. I wonder why? Ask and ask first we can go downstairs. To go near the river, you have to pay 2 Lari and leave your car.. Contacts free. Of course, we do not leave the car a short distance away and pay money.. This currency has ruined us. Mtskheta Jevari is one of the oldest villages in Georgia. 25 km from Tbilisi. So pretty close. We also love where the village is.. Souvenir shops, fancy shops, crowded streets… just like a holiday destination.

But from the moment I see the church on the hill, I keep saying we should go there.. Because the view we need to see is there, but we can’t find how to get out.. When a family comes, I show the man the view. I’ve given up on communication by talking now. When the man realizes that he can’t tell us, he makes signs that mean I’ll take you.. Long live then, long live body language.

The man, his family and a lot of children in the car in front while we are driving such a winding road behind him that I can never describe it.. It’s on the road that separates from the highway, and the road is like peanuts all the way up to the hill.. It must be because it is the closest tour route to Tbilisi.. We were used to adding dust to the dirt roads, but the smoothness of the road was very good for us to catch the sunset in the evening.

There is a German group.. They’re taking our picture. Someone talking to us like we know German. we don’t spoil. We applaud when the sun goes down. When the Germans join us, everyone else applauds.. Just like the Devil’s Supper. For the first time since we set off, we can enjoy a peaceful sunset.. We stop time and ourselves and enjoy the view.. I guess the word tired is commonplace for us now.. Evening time is closed. Go earlier to Braz and be sure to see the sunset. I think the most beautiful thing here is this sunset.

7. Lagodekhi

Lagodekhi is located approximately 150 km from Tbilisi. The Azerbaijan-Lagodekhi Border Gate is located here. Our intention is to see the waterfall in Lagodekhi before moving on to Azerbaijan.. You have to leave the car somewhere and walk the rest.. We left and walked for about an hour, but we have to cross somewhere.. water too high. we can’t pass. After the waterfalls in the lush nature of the Black Sea, the waters flowing from the gray stones do not please us.. We’re going back because we’re so tired. If anyone can go, write in the comments and send a photo, I can add it to the article.. i think it would be great. I think there is a much easier way for sure.. Tours are organized here. Not everyone can walk this road. I think we found the Lagodekhi trekking route.

8. Borjomi

Borjomi was a green place in the forests. Borjomi is also a very important center for health tourism. There are many Spa hotels in the Hotels area and you can get treatment here.. What interests me is that perhaps the world’s best mineral water comes from Borjomi. Water is obtained from icy waters from the glaciers of the Bakuriani Mountains in the Borjomi Valley and is extracted without being pumped. It is then delivered to the bottling plants by pipes.. The history of Borjomi soda goes back to the Ramanov Dynasty.. Borjomi mineral water has been recommended by Georgian and Russian researchers for the treatment of many digestive system diseases and diabetes.. Do I need to tell you that I bought all the Borjomi mineral waters I found in the market on the way back ;)?

9. Bakuriani Ski Center

Bakuriani region is one of the ski resorts of Georgia, which is visited by ski lovers. Snow is suitable for skiing between November and March.. It is a place with easy tracks preferred mostly by families with children rather than very experienced skiers.. It’s not a very lonely place in the summer.. It was a lively place when we passed, but we didn’t stop too long.. You can reach here by train from Tbilisi.. If those who go share their experiences, I can add them to the article.

10. Vardzia

Vardzia becomes our first stop in Georgia. It is a place similar to our Cappadocia, but they carved the inside of the mountain, settled and lived here, not the ground.. The entrance to the underground city, where you will experience fairy-tale moments from 1100 years, is paid.. You can also go to Vardzia with tours departing from Batumi and Tbilisi.. You can click here for more detailed information about Vardzia. I cannot pass on such a beautiful place with two words.

11. Kurubera Cave

The deepest cave in the world is measured as Krubera Cave in Georgia. It takes a month to reach the end of the cave.. Krubera Cave’s distance from the earth to the core is about 2197 meters. Can you imagine? The cave is named after the Russian geologist Alexander Kruber who discovered it.. The cave, which is suitable for professional cave athletes, is visited by many tourists every year.

12. Dadiani Palace

Dadiani Palace is located in Zugdidi, the last settlement before Mestia. You have to walk a little from Zugdidi for Dadiani Palace. The palace, which has been used as a museum since 1921, is also one of the most special palaces of the Caucasus.. Artifacts from the Dadiani family, from 14th century manuscripts to miniatures, are on display.. Like all over the world, this place is closed on Monday.. You can visit the Palace, which is open from 10:00 to 18:00.

13. Mestia

Welcome to the homeland of the Svans and the Svan Towers. Mestia region is a must visit place with its glaciers and glacial lakes. We had planned to go this way from the beginning, but the road threw us in other directions.. I am writing a note to myself to go on my next Georgia itinerary by briefly listing the places to see in Mestia.

  • Ushguli
  • Koruldi Glacial Lakes
  • Chalaadi Glacier
  • Mazeri Village and Shdugra Waterfall
  • Svan Towers
  • Svaneti Museum
