Geisha City Kyoto

THE CITY OF GEISHA WAS THE CAPITAL OF JAPAN

Full in Hiroshima After completing our day trip, we set off for Kyoto again.. We take our suitcases that we left in the hotel lobby and settle in our room.. After a good rest, we throw ourselves on the streets of Kyoto in the morning. In Kyoto, you can see Japanese culture more closely, it is a green city surrounded by mountains and full of temples.

Our first stop is Toji Temple.Toji Temple is a Buddhist temple founded in 823 AD.. And today it is the tallest wooden structure in Japan with a height of 57 meters. This temple is 10 minutes walking distance from the Kyoto station.

TOJI TEMPLE

We walk back to Kyoto station and get off at Inari station after two stops with our Jr tickets. As soon as you exit the station you will turn left and immediately on your right you will see a large Torii gate. Fushimi Inari Shrine built on a huge area. If you go to Kyoto, you should not miss this place.. You will have one of the most unforgettable experiences walking through the orange lacquered torii tunnels (Shinto gates). First, the wide tunnels are passed, then the small and narrow ones.. At the end of the tunnels, apart from the small temples, a beautiful pond welcomed us.. I think this is a must see place.. While passing through the Torii Tunnels, I noticed that a few of those cylindrical orange pillars were peeled off. When I approached and examined them, I realized that they were trees.

KINKAKUJI TEMPLE – The Gold Pavillion – GOLDEN TEMPLE

Kinkakuji is one of the best-known temples in Japan. It has been included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list since 1994. You can come here by bus number 205 from Kyoto station.

We could only visit these 3 temples in one day.. The next day, we decided to leave our hotel early and go to the Gion region.. Before we go to Gion, we decided to take a look at the stores.. I always buy something from every place I go, in terms of clothes.. But unfortunately I couldn’t find what I expected in Japan :(. Everyone’s style was pretty much the same anyway.. The goal was to find different interesting things. I just bought a model of geisha for decoration in my house : )

We wanted to walk because our hotel is not far from Gion area. Crossing the bridge when entering Gion. I really liked that they made the geisha statue as soon as I crossed the bridge.

YASAKA JINJA SHRINE

I’ve been to so many buddhist temples but I’ve never seen such worship. The indigenous religious belief of the Japanese is Shinto.. After Buddhism came to Japan in the VI century, the Japanese began to use the term Shinto in order to separate their old religious beliefs from Buddhism.. The forms of worship, on the other hand, first bow down, then they clap their hands, shake the rope and start praying.. It was changed, I put the applied picture below : )

KIYOMIZU DERA TEMPLE

There are definitely these fountains at the entrance of every temple. Some are bigger some are small. Before you enter the temple, you will see that they wash their hands and mouths in these faucets.. Purpose is to be cleansed before worshiping. In other words, it’s kind of like our ablution : )

If you walk all over the Gion region, you will have the chance to see many temples. Geisha are not as many as they used to be, so if you have the chance, you can come across them.. We walked around the Gion area all day, and we finished all our temple visits. During this time, we came across young girls dressed as geisha to take pictures with tourists at the entrance of the Kiyomizu Temple alone.. I had lost all hope when we stumbled upon real geishas on the street.. It would be really disappointing for me to go all the way to Kyoto and not see geisha.
