Burn Country Kula and Its Historical Houses

The historical name of Kula is “Katakekaumene”, that is, the burned country, a charming district of Manisa.. There is so much to see and do in Kula.. I have many reasons to pass Kula on the way back from my 55-day trip.. Birthplace of Kenan Evren. Kula is the place where Süleyman Shah, Yunus Emre and Tabduk Emre once lived.. A few years ago, I visited the geopark Kuladokya, which is famous for its fairy chimneys, like in Cappadocia and I passed out.. Now it’s time to see the historical houses of Kulan

Where and How to Go to Kula?

I’m trying to reach Kula’ by leaving the Arapapıştı Canyon and running again through the village roads.. I pass through places that if I had time, this way back would take weeks.. I climbed, descended, and climbed such villages… I arrive at Kula when the evening is about to fall. If you take Uşak or Manisa as your base to go to Kula, you can drop your way here. Uşak Kula. distance is 76 km and you can reach it in an hour.. The distance between Manisa and Kula is about 120 km.. That’s about 2 hours. A few hours is not enough to Kula, which is located between Ankara and İzmir, but you should definitely stop by.

Kula

Kula welcomes me like a huge city.. I must admit I was stunned at first. What I expected was a village like Şirince or Cumalıkızık, but this is the city you know.. Banks, main streets, crowds of people… I was so tired all day that the place I found would make me cry. I must say that I got a little aggressive when I was in a hurry to see the historical houses and take pictures before it got dark.

How would I find the historical houses? I parked right in front of the police. When you ask a few people, they say “ask the police”. The police try to describe it to me, but when it doesn’t, it jumps and says “follow me” to the engine.. He is in the front and I in the back we start to move on narrow roads. We’re going to a wide field. He says I can park the car there and shows the way.

Kula Historical Houses

The house where Kenan Evren was born is now used as an Ethnography museum.. I learn that it is closed because it is evening hours.. I’m starting to walk the streets. Finally I find those beautiful Historic, wood-carved houses with large courtyards.. I’m trying to set up the tripod and take pictures. Every time I try to photograph, tiny engines are thrown from the narrow roads.. cars passing. The road is really narrow.

The road is empty, it didn’t happen this time, I’m having a little madness when I say this time. Did I accidentally land in China or something?. These little engines are the means of transportation for these narrow streets.. I guess people were leaving their jobs and going home because it was evening time.. By the way, I am visiting one of the historical houses.. You can visit these houses for a few liras.. You can see its wide courtyard, climbing the carved stairs, floor tables, wooden ceilings, cross-stitch pillows.. You can take a trip to the old times.

Then I start wandering the streets. It’s getting a little quiet on the streets. Little girls follow me when I take pictures of the streets. Girls like me a lot because I’m a bit of a coke. I’m surprised when someone says “why are you so beautiful”. Aunt invites me in while I take a picture of a door there. It makes me so sad to see the little girls go when I go out. I go after them but I can’t find them. I would love to photograph them.

I am visiting the old, mostly destroyed historical school. Evening time is so beautiful next to the lights that the houses. The historical houses of Kula are located in a small part of Kula.. Actually, it was inside the walls, but there is no trace of the walls anymore.. I don’t remember how many hours I wandered around with Greek houses, Turkish houses, kissing roofs and evening lights.. I’m losing the car. I’m trying to ask someone but I can’t describe where the car is. A young boy offers to drive around and find the car. There is no street that we do not enter with one of those motors that I complained about.. And I’m circling so fast. Finally we find the car. Thank God.

What else is there to do in Kula?

There are not only these historical houses in Kula.. Kuladokya, which is similar to Cappadocia, is here.. I’ve been there before. You can read that post here. Again, it is very close to Geopark Kula.. Another must-see is the Geopark.. This is a young volcano that gives Kula the name of the burned country.. I can’t go there. For me, the Geopark is a trekking route that I will spend the whole day on.

It is one of the erupted lavas of Anatolia, where fossilized footprints are found, pointing to 10,000-12,000 years of Anatolia. its blackened geography is another discovery point. Kula is definitely not a place to stop by.. It was necessary to devote special time here.. I received many invitations from Kula people who saw that I complained a little about the big city view in my Instagram posts.. When I decide to go to those parts, I will definitely visit Kula in more detail.
