Budapest Transportation Tips | Airport, Metro…

Hungary‘s capital Budapest manages to be the center of attention of tourists every time. I have been to Budapest, one of my favorite cities in Europe, 4 times.. But the first time I didn’t pay attention to many important details since it was for business.. What are the places to visit in Budapest, where what to eat and drink in Budapest, how to get to Budapest? Many questions such as Budapest transportation information etc… had no answers.. The only thing that remained in my mind from my first trip was that I had to come here once again.

The second time I came to the city, I studied and came here.. First of all, I searched for cheap tickets to Budapest, as in every trip.. Afterwards, I learned topics such as How to get from Budapest airport to the city center and How to travel in Budapest city center by public transport. Here is a Budapest transportation guide from a Kayserili.

How to Get From Istanbul to Budapest?

There used to be many more flight alternatives from Istanbul to the city, but unfortunately, some airlines have canceled their flights to Turkey, so Pegasus and THY have remained.. As the number of airlines decreases, prices naturally increase.. But it is still possible to follow the campaigns and buy cheap tickets.

1) Pegasus Airlines

The most convenient way to go to Budapest is usually with Pegasus. The last time I bought it was in May 2017 for a round trip price of 230 TL, but of course, I had bought this ticket from the 40% campaign.. If you lurk, it’s possible to get around 260-300 TL from Pegasus’ 40 percent discount campaigns.

2) THY

THY’s sale from Istanbul to Budapest There are many more flights to. If you match the campaign, it can be 350-400 TL for a round trip with THY.. Of course you have to get it early.. Otherwise, especially towards the summer, tickets are in the range of 700-800 TL.

How to get from Budapest Airport to the City Center? (Budapest Transportation Tips)

You took care of Budapest transportation by buying your plane ticket and came to the city. Then your main agenda is how to get from the airport to the city center.. Here, Budapest offers you many different alternatives in terms of transportation.

1) Taxi : 8000 HUF (So approximately 118 TL)

When I went to Budapest for New Year’s Eve in 2016, I was on the THY plane due to snow. We were late due to the delay we had.. That night, we went to the city center by taxi.

There is a different method in Hungary about taxis.. There is a taxi kiosk next to the taxis at the airport exit.. You go here and tell the address you’re going to, and they give you a receipt that says how much money it costs.. You give this receipt to the taxi driver. The taxi driver takes you to the address written on this receipt and takes the money written on it from you.. So you don’t have to be afraid if this taxi driver has scammed me a lot.. Taxi takes you to the city center in about 20-25 minutes.. Of course we went at midnight.. We did not have a chance to test how long it takes in traffic during the daytime.. We paid 8000 HUF as a fee. At that time, it was 80 TL, and in November 2017 it was 118 TL.

2) Uber: 4000 HUF (Approximately 59 TL)

Our plan before the taxi was to reach the hotel with Uber.. For those who don’t know, Uber (https://www.uber.com/tr/) is a social ridesharing app.. Those who have a vehicle sign up for this system and when you call when you need a vehicle, this person offers you a kind of taxi service if it is nearby and available.. This popular application of recent years has angered taxi drivers in many cities.. With the application you download to your mobile phone, you can predict how much a journey will cost.. You need to enter your credit card to install this application.. A very large company with a worldwide value of 50 billion dollars. So you don’t have to be afraid.

Of course, you need the internet to be able to call a vehicle through this application.. Budapest Airport is very good in this respect. Free wireless internet available. In this way, we called a taxi from Uber, but when we did not get a response in a short time, we took a taxi.. As we were approaching the center of Budapest, an Uber vehicle called me and said that it was coming to the airport, but it was too late.

3) Public Transport 520 HUF (Approximately 7.6 TL)

Our intention was not to delay our flight so much. to reach the city by public transport. He was lucky to return. In all my subsequent visits, I always used public transport.. Getting to the city center from the airport by public transport is absolutely child’s play.. When you buy 2 of the 350 HUF tickets from the airport kiosk, it comes to 520 HUF.. (You cannot buy tickets in Dollars or Euros). You definitely need HUF) One of them is for the bus and the other for the subway you will take afterwards.. These tickets look like our old IETT bus tickets. You have to run the paper tickets when you get on the bus and subway.

As soon as you leave the airport, a bus with the number 200E will be waiting for you in front of the door.. If he doesn’t wait, you wait, he comes every 7-8 minutes.. After about 20-25 minutes, you arrive at the Kobanya Kispet stop.. You can’t miss this stop because it’s the last stop of the bus.

Budapest Metro

From here you can get on the metro, which is right next to you.. There are 5 main metro lines in the city. This is the last stop of metro number 3.. From here, you can choose the stop suitable for your hotel and get off.. Deak Ferenc ter stop gets very close to Vörösmarty Square, which we call Taksim Square in the city.. Starting from this square, Vaci Caddesi (Hungarian Vaci Utca), which we liken to İstiklal Caddesi, extends to the market place called Central Market Hall (Hungarian: Központi Vasarcsarnok).

Deak Ferenc ter station is also the intersection point of metros 1-2 and 3. Our hotel was close to the Astoria stop on line 2.. So we traveled 1 stop on line 2 and reached Deak Ferencter.. By the way, they do not take money for transfers in the subway.. Also, the security guards in the subway sell tickets and the price is 350 HUF again.. Don’t forget to operate the tickets you bought.
