As I pass by the ferry to Bozcaada, I look at what the island looks like with the wind blowing on my face.. The first thing that caught my attention is an imposing castle that covers most of the island: Bozcaada Castle. The closer you get to the island, the bigger the castle grows.. While I was on the way to this island, which I came to examine and write about, I found the leading actor of my writing..
As soon as I set foot on the land, I head to Bozcaada Castle without wasting time on the island I came to for a day.. I come to the entrance gate of the castle by crossing the bridge, which is about 10 meters long, built on a moat separating the castle and the island.. Taking advantage of the benefits of being a student, I enter the castle without paying.
Information About Bozcaada Castle
The castle was built on a very large land.. Surrounded by high walls and sea on 3 sides. There are old tombstones in the castle, and amphorae are exhibited in a small room.. At the moment I do not have technical information about the history of the castle yet. I wander around the castle by myself, trying to discover many things myself and smelling the history.. I see stairs to go up the high walls, and mustering up my courage, I climb these stairs to the top of the castle.. My reward is a magnificent view.
The vast sea and the whole island are under my feet.. The castle is covered with walls on 3 sides.. I’m not lazy to climb the walls on all sides and enjoy the different landscapes. Some parts of the castle blow so beautifully in this sweltering summer heat, you wouldn’t believe it.. I take a lot of photos with the camera I took with me.
The castle is like the watchdog of the island.. You can see the island clearly from the castle, which has a large and fascinating atmosphere, as well as a magnificent sea view.. With a gorgeous island and a deep blue sea, it really offers plenty of photographic scenery.. You can also get detailed information about both the history and features of the island by reading the texts inside the castle.
History of Bozcaada Castle
Another name of the castle is Castle. -i Sultaniye. It is not known exactly by whom the castle was first built.. However, historians say that the construction of this magnificent structure dates back to the Phoenicians.. However, unfortunately, we can’t get the answer to the question of When was Bozcaada Castle built. The current final version was built by Fatih Sultan Mehmet.. The castle fell into the hands of the Venetians for a while.. It was restored and expanded in the 1700s.. It was last restored in 1996.. It is said that the moat separating the castle from the island was once filled with water and thus the castle was protected.
There are various inscriptions on the castle gates.. In these inscriptions, both the history of the castle and the repair activities are written.. For example, in the inscriptions above the entrance gate, it is stated that the castle was repaired by Sultan Mahmut II in 1831.
There were two more gates called Breakwater and Sea Gate, apart from the main gate of the castle, but they are not in use at the moment.. The castle consists of two parts, the inner castle and the outer castle.. Another name for the inner castle is Ahmedek.. The inner castle has eight constellations, one of which is the chief sign (these are the signs I told you I climbed earlier). This castle has protected the island from outside dangers for centuries.. Today, it offers pleasant moments to tourists like me who love history and travel.. It is sometimes used for concerts and entertainment.
