What to do in Ayvalık?
strong>
Depending on where you stay, of course we will go to the sea during the day. If we have chosen to stay on Ali Bey Island, we can go towards Patrisya Bay and explore quiet places.. If we are staying in hotels or hostels on the side of Sarimsakli, you can swim in the vast beach of Sarimsakli..
To watch the sunset, you should definitely go to the Devil’s Table. Although there has been a decrease in greenery after the last fire, you can witness one of the most beautiful views in the world.. Here, visitors to the Devil’s footsteps throw coins and make wishes.. Someone I know started this tradition years ago for the sake of a claim and it has continued until today.
If you are tired of the heat, it is time to explore the district that will cool you down and is intertwined with history.. You can wander among the old Greek houses in the back streets of Ayvalık and take pictures.. Wandering around, you’ll see that all the streets stretch upwards perpendicular to the sea.. The reason for this is to use the breeze from Ayvalık like a natural air conditioner and spread it to all streets.. These boats leave around 10:30-11:00 in the morning and dock at the pier around 18:00 in the evening.. You can do these tours, including lunch, for a small fee.. Although you are told that the fish you are offered to eat on the boat is papalina, these are huge sardines, but they are just as delicious.. We would like to advise you not to leave without tasting it while you’re here.
What to Eat in Ayvalık?
It is produced in Ayvalık from olive oils with the lowest acidity in the world.. I recommend that you do not shop at every olive oil seller you see while walking around the district.. You should make sure that the shop you are shopping in looks right.. I can recommend Derman Olives to buy olives and olive oil.. There are plenty of restaurants serving olive oil dishes in the district.. You can sit in one of these and taste the delicious olive oil herbs of Ayvalık.
It’s evening and it’s time to form the trio of “raki-fish-Ayvalık“, which has become the motto of the town by the sea.. For this, we go to Ali Bey Island, to the Lale Restaurant, which belongs to the Lale Hotel that I recommend for places to stay.. If the season you are going is one of the summer months, do not forget to make a reservation in advance wherever you go.. Otherwise, sitting by the sea is nothing more than a dream.
Never ask for a menu here, what is written on the menu will not satisfy you at all.. Get up and go to the front of the cabinet to order the appetizers.. Before you choose, step back and take a look at the view.. You are currently viewing the appetizer cabinet with the most variety in Turkey.. It is not possible to see so many appetizers in one place anywhere. After saying herbs with olive oil suitable for the season, try the recommended appetizers made of seafood. Make sure to tell papalina if it’s season with appetizers.. This fish spawns for only 20 days. It is the size of a sardine juvenile and is consumed only for snacking.. If they try to feed you as much fish as sardines as papalina, you can walk away without looking back. You can end the night with a soup cooked from adabey, which is one of the local fish.
I can recommend you Ayvalık Toast to avoid heavy meals during the hot days.. Now it’s time to eat this toast, which is made in all cities, on the spot. The bread of this special toast can not be made anywhere else like in Ayvalık.. Likewise, the cheddar that is put into it in other places is never used here, instead of using fatty goat cheese.. In addition, it is a corner of paradise for asthma patients. I highly recommend Ayvalık and Ali Bey Island to all travelers.
Where to stay in Ayvalık
Stay after arriving in the district You have different options for. You can stay at the Temizel Hotel, which is the only five-star hotel in the district. Boutique hotels, which have been popular lately, may also be your choice.. For this, you can go to Ali Bey (Cunda) Island. Here is my recommendation to you Hotel Lale .
How to Go to Ayvalık? Where is Ayvalık?
The district’s transportation information to major cities is as follows:
Istanbul- (Izmit-Bursa-) Ayvalik 520 km.
Ankara-(Eskişehir-Bursa) -Balıkesir)-Ayvalık 675 km.
Ankara-(Afyon-İzmir-)Ayvalık 738 km.
İzmir-Ayvalık 156 km.
As I am going from Istanbul, the transportation from here I want to tell you. It is possible to reach this town from Istanbul in three ways. For those living on the Anatolian side, the only option is to take the Bursa route.. Since this route is not from the coastline, it is boring and tiring for those who drive.
There are two options for those going from the European Side. First; Transportation from Bandırma – Balıkesir route with the Bandırma car ferry departing from Yenikapı. Latter; Transportation from Çanakkale by car ferry via Çanakkale-Edremit.
Things to do along the way:
Manyas Cheese must be tasted while traveling via Bandırma
If Manyas can restore the bird sanctuary one day and the birds come back, you can stop by and spend time with nature.
After Bandırma, you should definitely taste the buttermilk and mihaliç cheese toast in the vicinity of Balıkesir-Susurluk, If you are going to a summer house, you should definitely buy a mold of low salt.
We are about to approach Edremit now.. Before you come to Edremit, do not forget to buy baked höşmerim from Havran.. You can find höşmerim everywhere, but believe me, you have very little chance of eating its baked version elsewhere.
After a 45-minute journey from the coastline after Edremit, we finally arrive in Ayvalık.
