How can you visit Lake Como cheaply?

Lake Como is a lake that passes through the towns of the city of Milan in the Lombardy region of northern Italy.. This is a famous, expensive, stylish, flamboyant region.

We think that seeing Lake Como is in the top 10 on every traveler’s “to do before death list”.. Because we were too. We are calling out to those who see Como photos on social media and sigh, want to go but have not yet taken a step.. We made an amazing route where you can bring Lake Como very cheap and we recommend the same to you.. If you’re ready, let’s get started..

How to get to Lake Como ?

As soon as we saw that Ryan Air’s Thessaloniki-Bergamo flight was 200 TL, we started our adventure by writing the 16 digits of our credit card 🙂 While there was no plan yet, we were 2-3 months in advance on October 31st. – We bought our tickets for the 6th of November and started to think about how we can make this trip full and cost cheap.. Our favorite job

Since we do not currently have a valid Schengen visa covering these travel dates, we started to collect our documents for Greece, the country we will enter first.. Greece visa documents are like in other countries, but getting an appointment at the visa center is easier and faster than in other Schengen countries.. Why? Because the Kosmos Visa office, where you need to apply for a Greece visa, only gives a Greek visa, but other offices such as VFS are busier and always give later appointments since they are the visa centers of at least 6-7 countries.. Keep in mind that those who will make an appointment with VFS should make an appointment at least 1.5 months in advance.

The beginning of our trip to Greece, of course.. After we set off with our own vehicle and crossed the Greek territory through the Ipsala border gate (Aleksandrapoli), we visited Alexandroupoli and Kavala and stayed overnight in Thessaloniki.. The next day, after visiting the must-see places in Thessaloniki, we chose the “park and fly” parking offer on Ryan Air’s website, left our car in a parking garage for 5 euros per day, and went to the airport by shuttle from the parking lot.. It was a strange feeling to have delivered our vehicle to Ryan Air for 6 days after that.. In the meantime, we did not neglect to search the car parks in Thessaloniki from the internet.. During this research, the answer we saw on the pages where people asked where to park their cars cheapest while traveling to other countries with Ryan air was Ikea parking lot! We didn’t think. But we could not take the risk that our vehicle was tied up or towed on the way back.. If you can be braver, please let us know about the results

Anyway let’s come to the point. How did we create our perfect route covering Lake Como?

The easiest way to reach Lake Como from Turkey is via Milan.

First of all, if there are those who have not been to Milan yet, let’s talk quickly.. There are 3 airports in Milan and you can land at two of them from Turkey.. More economical companies such as Pegasus organize flights to Bergamo, while companies such as THY organize flights to Malpensa Airport.. Flight time is almost the same, only Bergamo airport is actually in the city of Bergamo, so it is farther from Milan city center..

As Ryan Air is one of the economical airline companies, we landed at Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport.. We took the buses from the airport to the city center and moved to the hostel we rented on booking.com in Bergamo.. We would love to stay in Milan, but since we coincided with Halloween, both the hotels were full and the airbnb houses were very expensive.. In addition, it was much better to reach Bergamo in half an hour from the airport after a long journey between Istanbul-Thessaloniki-Bergamo.

Bergamo after a short walk at night, waking up like a bomb in the morning. we went to bed early. The next morning, we visited the areas called Bergamo old city center and the new city center, returned to the airport and went to pick up the car we rented for 6 days.. If you were to ask why you didn’t rent the car on the first day, let’s say this: We didn’t want to deal with the problem of parking in Bergamo, and it didn’t make sense to pay an extra day’s rental fee for 2-3 hours because we got off the plane late at night.

Which are the cheapest villages to stay around Lake Como?

Hotels around Lake Como are really expensive. It is also not possible to find an affordable place with booking.com and airbnb.. So what did we do?

The destination after Bergamo is Asso! Asso is such a small and non-touristy place that you may never even hear its name.. But staying in this cute little village has an incredibly effective location both economically and in terms of location.. We stayed two nights in Asso. Because we arrived here late on the first day from Bergamo for sightseeing, and on the second day, after visiting around Lake Como, we did not want to spend any more on accommodation in Como By the way, the nightly price of this house we found on airbb is 180 TL! Isn’t it amazing!

Lake Como Tour

First of all, let’s underline something. You know that Lake Como and Como (Village) are not the same thing, right?

Lake Como is an inverted Y-shaped lake and the shoreline of the lake is full of villages.. One of them in Como Village. For example, there is the landscape photo that is shared a lot on social media, it is the village of Bellagio, which has become our favourite..

Departing from Asso, we first went to Bellagio. We spent almost 2-3 hours here. There is everything here that will make you feel like you are in Italy.. After Bellagio, we took a short break at Nesso on the way to Como Village.. In the center of this village, there is nothing but a restaurant/cafe run by a very charming lady.. The ramp leading to the village center is too narrow to pass by with a vehicle.. In fact, the vehicle of a tourist who did not realize how narrow the road was, was pushed by the people of the stuck village and it was difficult to get out! The most logical thing is to leave the vehicle before leaving the village and take a walk.. By the way, the place you cannot pass without seeing is a tiny bridge on the road that continues to Como, a cafe on one of the terraces extending directly to the lake, and a tiny waterfall flowing into the lake under the bridge.. After a short photo break, continue on to Como.

Como is a modern, developed place that is too big to be called a village or a town.. Quite luxurious and stylish. Frankly, we did not want to spend too much time in Como because it was no different from other big cities in our eyes.. After we parked our car in Como close to the city center, we spent an hour or two for a short walk by the lake, and returned to the house where we stayed in Asso.. Compared to other villages and towns in the Lombardy region, food, shopping and shopping are at least as expensive as accommodation.. Keep in mind..

Other Must Sees Around Lake Como Villages

This is our suggestion for the most affordable and effective route to visit Lake Como.. If you have more time, we recommend that you take the ferries from Bellagio to other villages on the opposite side of the lake, such as Varenna, Menaggio . Ferry services are quite frequent and their fees vary according to the route..

We wish you a pleasant trip in advance.
