I wanted to restrict my
Greek Islands writing a little more with the word “most beautiful”. Because believe me, Greek Islands don’t end when you tour it like that a few times.. Every time I want to take a Greek Island trip, an island I have never heard of comes up before me.. This is what I love as a blogger who loves to explore. Because while you can enjoy the romantic sunset in Santorini, it is another pleasure to get lost in the wonderfully preserved history of Rhodes Island. Again, while fun nights in Mykonos are different, I like the hospitality of Crete. There is Chios, Kos, Thassos Island. I have explained the best of these islands, which I cannot finish counting, together with the Greek islands map one by one below.
I also talked about the places to visit, how transportation is provided and the hotels of all these islands I have mentioned.. And I also talked about which island you can go to with a Greece Gate Visa, and which one needs a Schengen Visa.
So if you have a Greek islands trip plan, you are reading this article. In time, you will find out which island appeals to you more.. Then, shall we tour the Most Beautiful Greek Islands together?
By the way, after reading this article, be sure to :
About Greece Check out all the articles I wrote.. It will be very helpful: GREECE
1. Are the Greek Islands Visa-Free?
First of all, I wanted to introduce an important issue that everyone asks the most.. A very interesting subject. Because there are 2 types of visa status for some of the islands of Greece.. (There is no such thing as Visa-free Greek islands. It is necessary to obtain a visa in both ways.)
Don’t worry, I’ll explain all of them below without confusing you.. First, let’s see what these 2 alternatives are for Greece visa:
Greece Schengen Visa
If you are going to fly to Athens, not to the Greek Islands, or to Greece If you are going to enter the borders by road, you MUST get a Schengen Visa.
If you have a multiple Schengen Visa, you can go not only to Greece but to all Schengen member countries.
If you have a question mark about the Schengen Visa, be sure to check out my What is a Schengen Visa and How to Get it .
Greece Door Visa
Now let’s come to the real issue. If you do not have a Schengen Visa, you can only enter some of the Greek islands with a specially recognized gate visa for citizens of Turkey – Russia – Belarus and Ukraine.
Moreover, getting a gate visa is Schengen’ it’s not as hard as i get. I am writing the reason below with the conditions:
- First of all, let me state that those who have a burgundy passport can get the gate visa.
- The conditions are much easier than getting a Schengen Visa.. But! They give the gate visa for a maximum of 7 days.
- And with this visa, you can go to 6 islands of Greece.. They are: Rhodes, Meis, Kos, Lesbos, Samos and Chios.
- When you go to one of these islands, you have the right of passage to the other islands that do not have a visa, by the way.
- Of course, it is not always possible to obtain a gate visa.. (Only in the period of May-October)
- The average cost of getting a Gate visa is between 50-60 Euros.
I recommend the Greek Islands Gate Visa to those who do not want to deal with Schengen Visa.. If you have any questions :
I would say that you should definitely check out my Greece Gate Visa article, in which I have explained every single detail about the gate visa.
2. About Greece & What Kind of Country Is Greece?
Before I talk about the most beautiful Greek Islands, I would like to briefly talk about what kind of a country Greece is, its best food, the situation and weather of the country :
<
- Greece is a beautiful country with a population of approximately 11 million, its capital is Athens, its currency is Euro, and its literacy rate is 97%.
- The official language is Greek, but You can communicate comfortably when you speak English.
- Meanwhile, the economic situation of the country, which is a member of the European Union, is somewhat troubled. That’s why you come across more affordable prices compared to other European countries.
- For example, when you go to Netherlands, you spend 100 Euros, while your daily food and beverage costs in Greece do not exceed 50 Euros.. (based on average preferences)
- Greece weather is also very similar to cities in our Mediterranean and Aegean Regions.. Since we know the seasonal transitions and temperatures, you can travel around without being unfamiliar.
- The same similarity applies to Greek dishes.. You can see our delicacies such as İzmir Meatballs, cacık and stuffed meat in almost all menus.. Although their tastes are not the same, there is no extreme difference between them.
- The most famous flavors you will encounter in Greece are; Greek Salad, Saganaki (Greek cheese), Tzatziki (Greek tzatziki) and Ouzo (Greek raki).
This information is much more I have explained in detail in my Greece Travel Guide. Must be read.
3. The Most Beautiful Greek Islands & Greek Islands Map
I said “The Most Beautiful Greek Islands” as the title, but they all have their own beauties. I will add below. I can list many reasons for you to go on a trip to the Greek Islands.
But the best reason for going to the islands is that you can enter the country from the sea with the Greece Gate Visa, without the need for a Schengen Visa, as I mentioned above.
Another The good reason is that each island has its own beauties, which I will explain below…
For example; Santorini with the highest romance that will make you smile in your heart is another, Rhodes with its wonderfully preserved historical structures and exquisite beaches, Mykanos, which is famous for its crazy parties, and Simi Island with its classic cute houses in the taste of a movie is another beautiful… near. Especially, it takes only 20 minutes to reach some of them.
The Greek Islands map above shows how close they are to our country.
Finally, make sure to book your hotel in advance before you go to Greece.. It gets incredibly crowded, especially in summer.. HERE browse the hotels with confidence.

3.1 The Most Romantic : Santorini
Let me put it this way : The island, which has the most different structure among the Greek Islands, Santorini… Because this is a volcanic island built on a hill with blue-white houses.
The volcanic eruption that took place a long time ago gave the island its present form.. And this natural phenomenon has brought a whole new dimension to Santorini.
For example, when you stay on the hill, I cannot describe the view you will wake up to in the morning.. You should definitely add this island to your list of things to do before you die and experience it for yourself.
“So how do I get to the top?” If you say, let me tell you right now. Due to the nature of the island, the settlement in Santorini is built on hills.
So when you reach the island by ship, you go up by cable car or by donkey.. Of course, you can also choose to walk up 600 steps.. (It gets pretty tiring)
By the way, let me talk about the places to visit in Santorini and how to get to the island:
Places to Visit in Santorini (1-2 days)
First of all, I recommend you to rent a motorbike, ATV or a car while visiting the island.. It’s definitely much more practical.. If we look at the places to visit, I can list them as follows:
- Imerovigli Town : The most beautiful places to stay and watch the sunset. In fact, check out these hotels in Imerovigli and you’ll love it.
- Fira-Thera : The capital of the island, great photos near the sunset
- Red Beach : Red beach is one of the most famous beaches of the island.. I’ve never seen a place with such a crimson beach before.
- Santorini Akrotiri Museum: A meticulous exploration of underground cities after the volcano eruption, magnificent!
- Perissa Beach : It is a beach where you can solve the food and drink event more easily than Red Beach.
- Oia Town : The place where the famous blue domed buildings of the island are most concentrated. It’s like a town straight out of fairy tales!
All places to visitPlaces to Visit in Santorini, I have included everything about Santorini Santorini Travel Guide, be sure to read it before you go.

3.2 The Most Fun : Mykonos
You can’t see anything in the name of vegetation in Mykonos, one of the most beautiful islands of Greece. There are neither lush lands nor streams here.. So what is the feature that makes this island so famous?
Of course, as you can see in the title, the island’s legendary nightlife… You can find all kinds of nightclubs, bars and taverns according to your sense of entertainment.
Believe me… It is wonderful to wander freely among the cobbled blue-white houses with the scent of bougainvillea and get lost.
Especially when you taste the magnificent seafood and sip nice cocktails among these streets, you warm up to the island even more.
And finally, you enjoyed the wonderful sunrise as you wish until the morning, and watched the wonderful sunrise with the same beauty. is it ok. You will have a peaceful and fun-filled holiday in Mykonos.
By the way, apart from the nightlife, the sea of the island is also blue. And it has a 90-kilometer coastline.. My advice is to walk on the beaches, breathing in the Aegean air among these wonderful streets… And of course, have fun at night as you wish…
If you want to learn more about Mykonos, Be sure to check out my Mykonos Travel Guide .
Places to Visit in Mykonos (1 day)

Because there are much better ones in our country.. I’m writing down the places you can still visit.. I suggest you rent a motorbike or ATV.
- Super Paradise Club : Nudist camp. But of course, there is no such thing as you will necessarily be walking around naked.. The beach is divided into 2 parts. One side is naked, one side is normal wear.
- Elia Beach : The color of the sea, its calmness, everything is much more beautiful than other beaches.. It is already one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece.
- Mykonos City Center : There are lime-painted houses, taverns and shops in the small, narrow, labyrinthine streets.
- Mykonos Windmills : One of the most beautiful places to watch the sunset accompanied by the island’s famous pelicans.
- Little Venice : One of the most important places on the island. The most expensive cafes, restaurants are here. I say have dinner here with the sunset one evening.

3.3 The Most Historical Smell : Rhodes Island
We came to Rhodes, one of the biggest of the Greek Islands… Rhodes has a very special place for me.
Because it is my hometown. I can take the ferry from Fethiye and reach Rhodes Island directly in just 90 minutes.. Moreover, without the need for a Schengen Visa, I am making this beautiful trip with a Greece Door Visa…
The beautiful aspects do not end there, of course.. Rhodes, with its 400 years of Ottoman history, wonderful beaches and delicious Greek food, is one of the most beautiful Greek Islands that should definitely be visited.. In fact, spare at least 2-3 days for this big island.. You will understand the reason more clearly below:
Places to Visit in Rhodes (2-3 days)
There are many historical buildings and beaches to visit and see in Rhodes. That’s why I want to share with you a few points that I like the most.. (I will link to the article I wrote below for all the places to visit, don’t worry) :
- Old Town Area : The most important historical point of Rhodes. The buildings are extraordinarily well preserved.. Especially Rhodes Castle, Palace of the Great Masters, Archeology Museum, Knights Street, Medieval Clock Tower, Süleymaniye Mosque and Hippocrates Square should be seen.
- Butterfly Valley : The habitat of thousands of butterflies. They are not visible around, but if you approach the tree trunks, you see hundreds of them together.. Moreover, in a lush nature…
- Lindos : A beautiful village built on a hillside with its white buildings. It has a castle on the top and a deep blue sea.. There are souvenir shops, taverns, ice cream shops and markets in its narrow streets.

3.4 The Most Serene One With Its Charming Houses: Symi Simi Island
Simi, a lovely island where pastel painted houses greet you with all their beauty, even before the ferry approaches the island…
I reached Symi Island from Rhodes in 60 minutes.. Believe me, it’s great to take photos among the neo-classical houses for 1 day and explore the island by rented motorbike or vehicle.
By the way, don’t worry that Simi is a small island.. Its history goes back to ancient times.. So much so that the ruins. It shows that different civilizations have inhabited the island since a century.
If you go on a tour of the Greek Islands, I say don’t miss this small, quiet and sweet island that tastes like a movie.
Because although this port island is small, it is worth seeing with its cute houses and happy It has a calming peace.
I even want to tell you about the places to see and transportation in Symi, which you can visit in 1 day below:
Places to Visit in Symi (1 day)

- Kali Strata : Here is where you will see Neo-classical houses up close. Although it is difficult to climb 600 steps, it is great to take a break and sip Frappe in between.
- St. John’s Knights Castle : Located at the end of the neo-classical houses. There is not much left of the castle, but its view is legendary as it was built on the highest point of Symi.
- Panormitis Monastery : This is the most important pilgrimage site of the 12 Islands and even the Orthodox World.. Very calm place by the sea. priests still live here. By the way, you can go to the island center in 40 minutes by car.
- Simi Island Beaches / Bays : With the Symi Taxi Boats application on the island, you can go to any beach you want at certain times.. In my opinion, do not go by car, the boat is better.. Because the beaches of Simi are a bit scattered.

How to Get to Symi Island?
- How to Get to Symi by Ferry : If you want to come to Symi directly from Turkey (Bodrum), Schengen Visa you must receive. 3.5 Breakthrough in Cycling: Kos Island in Kos
Kos Island, as it was called in Ottoman times, was definitely a bicycle island. I am very envious of this situation as I do not see it much in our own country.
Bicycles can be rented from all over the island.. The best part is that there are long and beautiful bike routes… I’m really amazed.
There are other things I like on the island, of course.. For example, there were many moments when I felt like I was in my country because of the large Turkish population in Kos.
Of course, on the other hand; I also liked the peace, historical buildings and beaches of the villages on the island.. But :
I have already explained all the notes about Kos Island at length in my Everything About Kos Island – Kos article. Before you go, I say you should definitely read it.
I have explained all the places to visit in more detail in the link I shared above, but I would like to briefly mention the important points below:
Places to Visit in Kos Island (2-3 days)
Places to visit on Kos Island are generally located in the center.. I recommend you to go to the parts that are a little further away by renting a car.. (Public transport is also available for those who do not rent a car)
- Hippocrates Tree : It is said that Hippocrates planted this tree in BC, but this is unlikely. Because the tree is 500 years old. Can’t stay so far. I think this is a story that emerged both to keep Hippocrates alive and to keep tourism alive.
- Gazi Hasan Pasha Mosque : It is among the most powerful artifacts remaining from the four centuries of Ottoman rule.. Right next to the Tree of Hippocrates.
- Eleftherias Square : This is a central point in Kos where you will definitely fall.. Surrounded by various shops. The first places you should see with the square are: Defterdar Mosque, Municipality Market and Archeology Museum.
- Asclepion : This is one of the most important archaeological sites of Kos.. It is a bit far from the center, but the view is beautiful because it is located on the hill.
- Kos Island Villages : There are many, but my favorites are Germe, where Turks live, cute Zia, built on the slope of the mountain, with greenery on all four sides. Surrounded by Asfendiou and the quiet village of Kefalos at one end of the island.
- Kos Island Beaches : There are many beaches, but let me share with you the ones I like the most; Mastichari Beach with its exotic atmosphere, Peters Beach and Psalidi Beach on the bike path close to the center.
How to Get to Kos Island?
- How to Get to Kos Island by Ferry : It is possible to reach Kos Island directly from Turkey with a Greek Door Visa.. I went from Rhodes in 130 minutes, but believe me, it is much easier and closer to go from Bodrum to Kos.. (20 min)
- Reaching Kos Island by Plane : There is no direct flight from Turkey to Kos, but you can transfer to Kos International Airport via Athens. Of course, Schengen Visa is REQUIRED for this.
- Kos Island Car Rental : As I said above, it is most logical to go to the far parts of Kos Island by car.. Since there is little time already, you spend your time better.. You can check the Kos car rental prices at link below.
My Kos Island Hotel Recommendations
You can view the hotel names by clicking on them. Hotel prices and features change according to the season.. Therefore, it may not be exact with the information below.

3.6 Land of Mastic : Chios
Now “What is mastic?” you will ask. Let me answer right away; Our chewing gum is known as “Mastika” in Greece.. The most important feature of Chios is that it is full of gum trees…
They even use gum so much that it appears in all products from cream to raki liqueur.. They even use it in yogurt. That’s all I’ll tell you.
Except that it has plenty of gum, this place is one of Greece’s 5 biggest. island. Naturally, places to visit are divided into 2 as ‘south’ and ‘north’.
So you need to allocate 3-4 days to visit every place.. The most famous ones are the villages of the island. When there are so many places to see, you have to make a good plan beforehand.
I have listed the important places to visit one by one below to make your job easier:
Places to visit in Chios (3-4 day)
As I said above, the places to visit on the island are divided into south and north.. And there are many places to see.
I did not have enough time for the northern part since I stayed for 2 days.. But I’m writing the places to visit in the south right below:
- Chios City Center : There are windmills, churches and markets. But don’t expect much.
- Paralia : A place with a small beach and cafes. The beach is stony but charming.
- Chios Villages : The most famous places of the island, the villages. My favorites are;
- Armolia,
- Famous for its ceramic craftsmanship,
- Kalamoti, with its narrow streets and lovely squares,

As I wrote in the title, Meis is really the apple of the eye of Kaş.. Even their names are related.. Namely; Meis means ‘eye’. Our beautiful holiday destination Kaş also got its name from the meaning of ‘the eyebrow above the eye’.. When they are so connected to each other, of course, they are also deep in distance. While you can even reach Kaleköy from Kaş Harbor in 2 hours, you can go to Meis, which is connected to a different country, in just 20 minutes. Other than that, I want to talk a little bit about the island.. Meis is a small and unstructured place. For this reason, the people of Meis live almost dependent on Turkey. Imagine, you can use the Turkish Lira as the currency on the island.. that much. But it’s definitely a world different from us in every way… My advice : If you go to Kaş, if you have a Schengen or Greece Door Visa, you can go to Meis at 10 am and arrive at 4 pm with daily tours. return… Places to Visit in Meis Island (1 day) Meis does not have a long list of places to visit as I suggest in other Greek Islands. ‘Cause it’s such a small island. But I still write what you can do below : How to Get to Meis Island? My Meis Island Hotel Recommendations Above the hotel names you can view it by clicking. (I will explain this in more detail below) Another beautiful part of the island is that, unlike some Greek Islands, it is much greener… Here in Thassos, when green and blue come together, wonderful views emerge. By the way, Thassos is known as ‘Tashoz’ in Turkish.. And 12 in the Greek Islands. The big island itself. This is why there are so many historical structures, beaches and coves to visit and see.. I definitely recommend you to go with a plan. I have prepared Thassos Island Travel Guide to make your job easier.. Be sure to read before you go.
