DATÇA TRAVEL GUIDE & THINGS TO GO IN DATÇA
Datça Travel Guide we rolled up our sleeves as soon as we got back from Datça, because we are truly astonished, such a beauty while it was right under our noses for years. we couldn’t see! Now, without further delay, we would like to tell you about Datça and why we love Datça so much.. No matter if the belts are tied, Datça Travel Guide, Places to Visit in Datça and The Most Beautiful Datça Beaches
we will definitely go to Datça again. It was a trip for us where we could find both calmness, atmosphere and nice and pleasant restaurants, fell in love with their ‘bük’ and returned without getting enough.. Oh Datca! In Datça travel guide How to get to Datça, Transport in Datça, Accommodation in Datça, camping in Datça , How many days to stay in Datça, Places to visit in Datça, where to swim in Datça, things to do in Datça , how long to stay in Datça and we talked about eating and drinking in Datça.
How to get to Datça & How to get to Datça?
One of the reasons why Datça has been relatively ‘less’ crowded so far is that there is no airport nearby.. The two closest airports are Milas and Dalaman Airports.. It takes approximately 2.5 – 3 hours to reach Datça from both of them.. If you have not rented a car or are not coming by car, there are regular shuttles from both airports to Datça.. But if we think about it, we think Datça is an extreme driving route.. Otherwise, going to Datça’s famous benches can be a problem..
There is also a car ferry to Datça from Bodrum.. If you have a plan to cross from Bodrum to Datça, like us, it takes less time than crossing by road (90 minutes).. However, at most 3 ferries depart daily and the ferry is quite small.. That’s why you need to buy tickets in advance.. You can check the ticket prices on their website (here).
We went by ferry on the way out, but on the way back we went by car because the time did not match.. The return took approximately 3.5 hours by car to Bodrum.. We think both are appropriate..
Transportation in Datça
If what you really want to go to Datça is to have a sea holiday in a nice hotel, and if you want to go out more in the evenings, we think you can travel without a car.. But if you want to visit the coves and go wherever you want whenever you want, a car is a must, at least it seemed that way to us.. We also saw a lot of hitchhikers on the roads, it seems that the hitchhiking culture is slowly developing..
Even though Datça looks big on the map, it takes about 1 hour to go from one end to the other. Still, the roads to the bays can sometimes be mountainous and stony.. It is useful to arrange your time accordingly.. Datça did not upset us at all, except for small mountainous and stony places..
Accommodation in Datça & Beautiful Hotels and Houses in Datça
When we decided to go to Datça, the two most recommended accommodation areas were Datça Center and We saw that it was >Palamutbuku. Palamutbuku is very suitable for those looking for a quiet holiday destination and families with children, and is filled with tiny boutique hotels instead of big resorts.. Especially considering that it is after the Pandemic, we trust boutique hotels more than big resorts for cleaning right now.. Palamutbuku Mavi Beyaz Hotel is the most recommended boutique (but expensive) hotel in Palamutbuku.. If you are interested, you can search.
Since we went to Datça for 3 nights and we miss hanging out in the center in the evening, we stayed in Datça Center, that is, in the port area.. The name of our hotel was Datça Suites Boutique Hotel. We hired via Airbnb. Hotel location and cleanliness was good. They just gave us a different room than the one we booked (we booked the terrace floor, the ground floor arrived) and it was expensive because we got it last minute (400 TL per night). As we said though, it’s close to the beach and the cleanliness measures were good. So we can recommend.
If you want to stay at Airbnb, let’s leave a link like this. If you become a member of Airbnb with this link, you will earn a credit of 170 TL valid on your first stay, and as you continue to use Airbnb, Airbnb may start to like you more and add surprise credits to your account. Good luck in finding a place! ☺
Camping in Datça – Datça Camping Sites
If you are looking for a camping holiday place, Datça is also very good at this.. Because there are campsites by the beach and the camping culture is quite developed.. There is also a camp audience that comes knowingly and by choice.. We promised each other that if we go again, we will definitely camp..
Our favorite place in Datça, Akçabük Camping, established just behind Kurubük, and Ilıca Camping in the center of Datça are considered the best camping areas of Datça.
There is also the newly opened Ederlezi Camping, which is a ‘luxury camping’ or glamping area.. You can stay in the luxury tents set up by the business without bringing your own tent here.. There are beds in the tents.. So it’s like the luxury version of the tent. If it will be your first camping experience or if you want it to be a little more comfortable, you can also search Ederlezi Camping’.
As for the question of how many days to stay in Datça, we think it’s very comfortable for 1-2 weeks. Even if you stay longer, you won’t get bored! But from a traveler’s point of view, let’s see its beautiful twists, go to deserted coves by boat, try food and beverage places, even if you say that there is no need to take a hotel holiday, a 3 or 4 days would be very good..
Let’s come to the Datça travel guide and places to visit in Datça.
Datça Travel Guide & Places to Visit
Places to Visit in Datça
Old Datça
When we came to Datça, we said we wouldn’t be able to see Old Datça without seeing it, and our first stop in Datça was Old Datça.. Old Datça is a tiny area about 2km from the center of Datça, it is so tiny that you can think of it as a neighborhood.. If you want to visit the whole, it takes 20 minutes on foot.. But it is definitely a must see with its neighborhood texture, tiny shops, small markets selling Datça soda and cute places..
We first had breakfast at Nil Cafe, then we ate ice cream at Ice Cream Gaymak’, then the famous coffee Orhan’s Yeri We drank coffee at strong> and then went to the street where Can Yucel’ is.. Can Yücel lived in his house here for many years, and now that there are still people living in the house, we are expected to look at the house from afar and commemorate Can Yücel with silence and respect.. It’s not a museum on the door, but it’s not sad to see that there are people who force the door despite the text on the door.. And if you come for lunch or dinner, don’t forget to eat stuffed zucchini blossoms..
Knidos Ancient City
When you say places to visit in Datça, of course, Knidos cannot be done without. After Old Datça, we turned the route directly to Knidos.. It takes about 1 hour by car from Old Datça..
Knidos is located at the western end of Datça, one of the most important and richest cities of the Ancient Carian Civilization of the time.. Nowadays, unfortunately, not much remains of the ancient city and some important pieces were taken to the British Museum in London, where they are exhibited.. Still, the view, and even what’s left of the ancient city, is worth seeing.. The entrance is currently 14 TL, free for the museum card.
It is open until 7 pm in summer, but since Datça’s most legendary sunset is here, they often allow the insiders to stay until sunset.. If you are going during the sunset hours, you can take two folding chairs with you and watch the sunset right in front of the Round Temple.
Apart from that, Knidos is one of the indispensable stops of boat tours and private boats because its sea is very beautiful.. Since it does not have a beach, it is more suitable for those who come by boat. If you do not need the beach to enter the sea, you can enter from the rocks..
There is a facility inside for eating and drinking, but you can be more comfortable if you bring your own food.. You will love the deep blue view of Knidos, guaranteed!
It’s time for benders, Datça means twist!
The Most Beautiful Beaches, Bays & Coves of Datça
Bük is the name given to narrow bays by sailors. And Datça also has incredibly beautiful twists.. Wherever we see a magnificent sea, it is in a place caught between such folds and folds.. Datça is a place that will make you very happy in terms of sea.. In some benches there are businesses, in some bends there is no business, in fact, there are no people other than you.. In other words, it’s for everyone’s taste.
Let’s not forget, take sea shoes with you.. Most of the places where you will swim in Datça will be stony..
Palamutbükü
Let’s start with the most popular corner of Datça, Palamutbükü. Palamutbuku is loved because it is more developed than other benches, because it has more business alternatives and of course because it has a magnificent sea..
The most popular establishment in Palamutbuku, Mavi Beyaz Hotel. The sunbed prices of businesses are much more affordable than touristic places such as Bodrum and Çeşme.. Also, if you drink a certain amount of space in the businesses you live in, they don’t charge you for sunbeds.. If you only want to pay for sunbeds, as of 2020, it varies between 30 TL and 70 TL depending on the place..
When we went to Palamutbükü, it was noon and it was a bit crowded, so we didn’t swim here.. Also, if you want to not give money to businesses to swim in the sea, Palamutbuku may not be very suitable.. The sea of unmanned bends ahead is equally beautiful..
Ovabükü
We stopped by Ovabükü on our way to Hayıtbükü because we were curious about the sea.. There is no private establishment for camping, but there were a lot of tenters.. The surroundings were also left clean.
Ovabükü is quieter and less crowded than Palamutbükü.. Families with children were more than other benches. And if you don’t want to give money to businesses, there are also areas where you can throw a towel on the ground and swim in the sea.
Sea shoes are a must here as well, stones can be sharp.. And the sea gets deep fast.
Haıtbükü and Boat Tour
Continue from the benches! Hayıtbükü is also a Datça district, which has coastal establishments like Ovabükü and is mostly preferred by families with children.. There are also enough markets around.. The reason for our visit here was to take a boat from here and go to the bays of Datça that cannot be reached by car.. We can say that this was the best decision we made in Datça.
There are regular daily boat tours from Datça Port, but these boat tours often go to the coves that you can reach by car.. At the end of the whole-day boat tour, you only go to 1-2 points that you cannot reach by car and the whole day is spent on the boat tour.. And frankly, we still haven’t gotten used to the idea of a crowded boat tour after the pandemic.. As such, when we came to Hayıtbükü, we asked the shopkeepers if there was anyone for 1-2 hours by boat at the place where the businesses are located and they suggested Sebo brother to us.. Brother Sebo made a plan for us for 2.5 hours and after 10 minutes we were already on the sea by boat.. ‘Pig Pit’, one of the stops we stopped by by boat, was perfect.. Be sure to list.
Also, with the same method, let’s say you are a group of 4-5 people, you can go to a deserted bay by boat, hang out there until the evening, decide on a time in the evening and tell the boat to pick you up at that time..
Boat rental prices change from season to season. We paid 350 TL in total.. Maybe a little harder bargaining. Sebo brother’s number is 0532 692 13 90. If you’re looking for us, say hi to us..
Gabaklar Beach
Another place just like Datça! They didn’t say that Datça writes the book of calmness for nothing, and this is the beach as well. It gets less wind, there are fewer people than other bends, and its management is very cute.. If you do not want to sit in the establishment, you can throw a towel in the area you find empty..
We had a lunch here and loved it, the prices were also very reasonable..
Kurubük
Cover lovers here. On the first day in Datça, we saw Kurubük from above by car and said we must come here early the next morning when no one is there, and swim here when no one is there.. Good thing we did, the color of the water, the virginity of the surroundings and the peace it gave were incredible!
There is no business, just throw your towel on the ground and swim in the sea.. Sea shoes are a must. Boat tours dock in the afternoon, it gets a little crowded. Also, bring your water and food with you, we didn’t see any grocery stores around.. Also, make sure to take a photo with a view from the top on your way back..
Now we have our favourites;
Gerence Bay (Small Aquarium)
Gerence Bay is definitely our favorite place among all these bends, coves and beaches in Datça.. Gerence Bay, an unmanaged cove close to Palamutbuku. The view is amazing, the water is amazing, especially if you come early in the morning, it is a perfect feeling to go to the sea and not go out for hours when there is no one around..
After seeing Gerence Bay, we decided that this is the best sea we’ve ever seen in Turkey.. Even while traveling around the world, so many beautiful ones are limited among the bays we see..
Don’t forget to take water shoes, water and food with you.
There is also a Kumluk Beach in Datça that we could not go to because we did not have time. It is very easy to access during the day since it is right in the center.. If you have time, you can add Karaincir Bay, Kargı Bay and Akcabuk to the list.
Datça Boat Tours
Now, let’s talk about boat tours in Datça.. In Datça, of course, there are all-day boat tours with music.. However, as far as we can see, you can also reach the stops by car, except for Pig Pit and Dilek Cave, which are among the stops of the boat tours.. That’s why we skipped the boat tour in Datça this time.. If you are going to join the boat tour, we recommend you to choose the ones without music.. Because the music is bad most of the time..
We already wrote the 2-hour boat tour we recommend instead of the boat tour above..
Let’s talk about eating and drinking!
Recommendations for Eating and Drinking in Datça
It may be because we came to Turkey for the first time in 5 months, but don’t eat in Datça. -We enjoyed the drinking session quite a bit.. Let’s take a look at where we ate;
One of the most popular spots of Yeni Datça is Kumluk Beach and in the evening there are raki-fish concept venues. We ate here one night at Dutdibi Fish Mekan. The food was delicious but of course the prices are quite touristy. Yet one night we let ourselves be like this. If you want to have raki and fish in a quieter place, you can try Fevzi’s Yeri Fish Restaurant.
Then, goat’s milk ice cream is very famous in Datça.. That’s why we recommend you to try Tekin Usta, it was very very good.
If you look for a place to drink coffee in Kumluk Beach, Machu Pichhu Guru Cafe was beautiful..
One of the most admired places in Palamutbükü is Port Restaurant. Instead, we had a small snack and a coffee break at Payam.
The breakfast we had at Nil Cafe in Old Datça was also good, everything it was fresh. Coffee on it is already at Orhan’s Yeri.
Of course, I can’t help but take honey and almonds on the way back from Datça, which is famous for its Honey and Almonds.
Believe me, we loved Datça very much.. There is a strange side that draws people to him and gives him peace.. We will definitely go again in the coming years..
Have a nice trip everyone.
