10 LOCAL ACTIVITIES TO DO IN SINGAPORE
Singapore skyscraper and luxury aside A multinational city-state where the traditional and the shabby coexist. If you only visit the touristic areas and hang out at the most expensive restaurants and the most luxurious roof-tops, this city may even seem fake to you.. You can say that it is an aesthetic, expensive and beautiful city created by human hands.. But there is also the other side of the coin.. You can also choose to come back from Singapore with a very different experience by visiting, eating and shopping like locals.. Of course, this will vary a bit depending on how many days you spend here and your expectations on your trip.. You must see the touristic places, we have nothing to say to him.. But there are also less touristic suggestions that we have listed below for you, which you may regret later if you do not experience them.
1- Shop like a local..
Singaporeans and expats spend most of their time shopping. High-income people spend their time on Orchard Road, where the most stylish stores and expensive designer boutiques are lined up at the weekend.. This street is incomparably beautiful and unbelievably luxurious with Nişantaşı or Bağdat Street, which we can call the most reasonable equivalent in Istanbul.. There is even a transition from one of the shopping malls to the other, lined up like pearls along a long street.. A very logical architecture designed according to the possibility of precipitation in Singapore in all seasons.. People spend time with their friends in many cafes and restaurants here, socializing and taking their belongings without getting wet and without making much effort.
But if you are an economical traveler like us, Instead of squandering your limited budget on Orchand Road, you should explore more local shopping spots. Joo Chiat, Kampong Glam, Haji Lane, and Tiong Bahru are just a few of the places locals scour the streets for shopping.. Since we prefer alternative, colorful and more natural places, we had a lot of fun walking around Arab Street, where Haji Lane is located.
2- Dining at Hawker Center eat, drink coffee..
You should stop by hawker centers to have quality and delicious food by spending little money in Singapore. In this city, you will not have any problems with the quality of the food, as the food and restaurants are under constant control.. The most recommended hawker centers are; Redhill Market and Food Centre, Tiong Bahru Market, Old Airport Road Food Centre, Maxwell Food Centre, Chinatown Complex Food Center. The dishes you can eat unique to Singapore are fish head curry, hokkien mee, roti prata, satay and laksa.. You can order the most delicious coffees from these hawker centers; Our recommendations are Ice Kopi or Ice Cendol. By the way, ordering coffee in Singapore is a serious matter.. There is a definition of coffee where you have to order everything from the type of milk to the sugar content in one go.. Thank god we didn’t have any problems because we drank plain, sugar-free americano, but if you prefer coffee with sugar and milk, it’s easy.. By the way, there are millions of places where you can drink coffee in Singapore, but we especially love Selfie Coffee!
Here’s a short table for you It may be useful for you.
Kopi-0 Black coffee with sugar Black coffee with condensed sweet milk, which they call Kopi Condensed. Kopi C Black (plain) coffee made with evaporated milk Kopi Kosong Black coffee, plain and without milk, as you know Kopi Gah Dai Extra black coffee made with condensed milk. So quite sweet Kopi Siew Dai Coffee made with condensed milk but less sweet Kopi O Siew Dai Black coffee with less sugar Kopi Po Coffee made lighter by adding condensed milk and water Kopi O Po Black with sugar, with more water added and lighter coffee Kopi Gau Strong coffee with added condensed milk Kopi O Gau Black coffee with sugar and very strong Kopi Peng Cold coffee made with condensed milk Kopi O Peng Cold black coffee with sugar Kopi Gau Peng Coffee with strong, cold, condensed milk Kopi O Gau Peng Strong black sugar coffee Kopi Kosong Peng Iced plain (sugar-free) black coffee Kopi Gau Kosong Peng Iced, very strong sugar-free and milk-free black coffee
3- mingle with Arabic and Malay locals.
Get lost in the streets around Haji Lane and Kampong Glam, creating an atmosphere where you can sit in cafes and mingle with locals rather than tourists. It should be noted here that this is a very difficult proposition because the city stinks of tourists from head to toe.. Wherever you throw your hand, you bump into a tourist. Of course, these tourists do not always have to be white.. Someone you see as a local may be Malaysian or other slanting. Do not perceive this expression as racism.. We are just trying to say that in this region, everyone is so similar to each other that it is very difficult to distinguish who from which country of the Far East.. For example, when you are traveling around Europe, when you see long-legged girls and you hear someone shouting “Scandinavia!” or “ummm errmm”, you can choose words like “America!” or “je, veux, moi” and say “France!”, blonde, “Russian!” You will not be able to say Indonesia, Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur as easily as you say. After all, it is so difficult to understand what the Singaporean language is like, because of the English signs around, the English-speaking taxi drivers, and the English menus.. Anyway think of it as a game and try to notice who is local.. It will be fun.
4- Throw yourself on the beaches of East Coast Park.
Two to Singapore Although it is not very meaningful for those who go for three days, this is an activity that should be added to the to-do list for those who will visit this place for a longer period of time.. When you think that you have passed this tiny city-state in half an hour by car from the beginning to the end, you will see the 3. the day will be empty. he 3. If the day coincides with the weekend, rent a bike or skate and take a tour around the beaches of East Cost Park, which is the first choice of Singaporeans for the weekend.. Even if you do nothing, you can feel like a local in Singapore just by taking a quiet walk.
5- Take a Macritchie Reservoir Treetop walk.
A perfect place where you can take a long walk in the heart of nature, accompanied by hundreds of animal and bird species.. You can search for a short walk on the internet and find a walking route, but instead we share the link here.. In addition to hiking, this forested area, where water sports such as canoeing can be done, is another place preferred by Singaporeans to spend time, especially on weekends.. It is impossible not to want to go here after seeing photos of people walking from the suspension bridge, which is built on a very deep height, on the Internet.
6- Explore the view in Pulau Ubin.
Perhaps Singapore’s only surviving real (malay) kampung (turkish) village. This island, which you can reach in 10 minutes by boat from Changi Point Ferry Terminal, will be an ideal activity to escape from the crowds of Singapore, one of the most metropolitan cities in the world, and to find peace.. You should spend a few hours on the island by renting a bike. We couldn’t go, unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time, but we would love it if you could go and share your comments.
7- Wander around Haw Par Villa.
A theme park where you can best understand Chinese mythology and culture. You do not pay the entrance fee to this park, which is located on Pasir Panjang Street.
The park is a place full of over a thousand interesting figures, figures and sculptures.. If “what else do I do, I’ve seen everywhere but I have 2 more days here.” If you say, it’s the right place for you.. This is a different and not very touristic spot.
8- Swim in the Marina Bay Sands hotel’s Infinite pool.
Spend money and swim against a view like this for once in your life. There isn’t much to say about it.. This hotel is the symbol of Singapore. Ok, it’s a bit salty, but when you come to a city like Singapore famous for its skyscrapers and rooftops, you can reward yourself with a little luxury.. Guests staying at the hotel can use the pool free of charge, but there are also those who print their money and enjoy the pool.. Moreover, after spending time in this pool during the day and taking lots of Instagram photos, you can have fun until the morning at Ce La Vie bar on the roof of the hotel at night.. You can find our article for other roof top bar suggestions in Singapore here.
9- Eat Street Noodles at Golden Mile
As we said before, when you eat on the street in Singapore, you don’t have to think about whether it’s dirty, clean, fresh, stale or like that.. Every place is inspected and you can enjoy excellent street flavors with peace of mind.. As for this noodle event, you know a culture identified with the Far East in general.. We ate our instant noodles on the streets of Vienna for the first time.. As we do not have the habit of using chopsticks while standing and we could not find the courage to ask if I could get a fork, we messed it up.. Not in Singapore, but we got into the noodle thing in Bangkok. Of course, everyone in Bangkok eats so messily, loudly and hotly and everywhere is so dirty that you don’t have to worry about it, have fun.
10- Sri Visit Mariamman Temple
One of Singapore’s oldest temples. The exterior is very interesting.. If you say you haven’t seen enough temples or you can’t get enough of them, we say stop by here.. The temple already has such an interesting architecture that it will call you from afar.. Since the time we went to Singapore coincided with the Chinese New Year, it was very crowded inside, so we just took a few photos from the outside.. I guess we had already filled our temple quota in Bangkok and we were saving some for Bali, so we continued on our way without even looking inside.
That’s it for our top 10 recommendations. Have a nice trip in advance, sir..
